Plenty of gas in tank, but Neon will not stay running after it's cranked. It only keeps running if I keep pumping the gas pedal. Engine will not idle. Is it the fuel line or filter? No prior problems. Thanks

Many things can cause this. There was a recall on throttle bodies from 1998-2000,maybe yours fits in there. Go by VIN not date on door. Check the fuel pressure, you need special equipment for this. If all else fails, you probably need a t.p.s.(throttle position sensor). Might need to replace the entire throttle body to get the sensor.

Why won't car stay running unless I keep pumping the gas pedal

Sounds like a fuel pump issue. Check the pressure from the fuel pump.

Where is the fuel pump located?

What is your year--make--model--engine size? On a cold engine, you can try cycling the key on and off several times before you crank it, see if it helps? By doing that, your priming the fuel system.

Usually electric fuel pumps are in the gas tank, but, without year--make--model, I can't look up any info.

Starting my neon and keeping it running.

I believe you should just set the idle higher at the throttle body or MAF so it gets enough air and fuel to keep running. Those butterflies have to be cracked open a little to start with so it's getting enough air to run without you having to keep your foot on the throttle pedal.

Ever since i ran my isusu rodeo out of gas, it will crank but it does not want to crank. I've add additives to clean the injectors, i've changed the EGR sensor, with very little help. cld u give...

maybe it didnt run out of gas but just shut down, if it did run out it may have sucked up dirt from the botoom of the tank causing the fuelpump to lock up, what you can try to see if the pump starts again is to spray starting fluid into throtle body and cranking the engine, the engine should start and will die out after fluid is burnt but may stay running if power stays to pump and it frees up, you may have to try this a few times, if you spray and it doesnt start then you may have a diffrent problem. make sure to have someone hold pedal to floor and spray for 3sec, then release gas pedal connect hose to throtlebody and try to start. good day.

2001 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor cranks but wont stay on unless your giving it gas. I put my ear to the gas tank and can here a clicking sound. Could it be the could it be a fuse, fuel pump...

No if it starts but you have to keep your foot on the gas to keep it running and then it dies when you take your foot off the pedal the fuel pump is working otherwise no gas at all if it was not working the throttle position sensor is bad the contact in the sensor is worn out at idle spot but when you first star it the sensor is in a different position and with your foot on the gas you can keep it running right racing like a normal engine but if no gas peddle it won't run if you just turn the key to start like normal but there's also a possibility that the idle air control valve is shot to both are on the throttle body you can look at them at rockauto.Com I'm assuming that your using premium gas and your throttle body is clean if not clean it out and see what happens before you spend $$$ on parts and check all your vacuum lines

Car ran out of gas and when I put more gas in the tank, I have a check engine light, however the car turns over, but does't start. What can I do?

Fuel injected vehicles can be very unforgiving when they run out of gas. Add as much fuel to the tank as the situation allows and then get some one to give you a boost. While cranking the engine hold the gas pedal to the floor and keep it there until (hopefully) it starts. Do not pump the pedal. Just keep it pressed to the floorboards. It should fire up. Crank engine for about 30 second intervals and then let it rest about a minute before trying again. That way you will not burn up the starter.

Was running-stalled-turns over but will not fire.gas guage wont move and gas light stays on

check and make sure you have plenty of fuel in the tank. gas light should not be on as long you have plenty of fuel in the tank unless you have faulty fuel level sensor. check if you getting sparks and fuel, pull wire and one plug out, ground it to the vech have a friend turn over the engine and see if you getting strong sparks. no sparks check coil having 12V, good coil, cam sensor faulty. check if you getting fuel, pulling hose from the fuel filter line, point it down ward wrapping the end with clothes covering the hose and turn the engine over, see if you getting proper fuel and good pressure coming out of the line using your thumb slightly cover the fuel line. no pressure or fuel, check the fuel pump, good pump, faulty crank sensor. both crank and cam sensor work the same way, one telling computer to send sparks to the plugs and other turn on the fuel pump.

fuel filter is at right side of gas tank undernieth car
by pumping the gas all you are doing is opening the throttle plates alowing some air.its not uncomin for injection cars with higher mileage to need alittle more air for start up.
check ECT sensor.
clean throttle plates
is check engine light on?
