Key fob is stuck in console backwards and the rear lights are on how do you remove key

your old FOB has button switches stuck
retire it. battery coin removed, does so.
use 2nd fob car came with new

the book on all cars warns of this.
say have no alien keys near by, using your fob.
users guide, tells it endless.
also depend if fob is active or passive RF class.
actives are the pain fobs. if stuck on.
but 3 fobs on a key change are all bad news.
we cant see what you are doing. so....

and cars mostly have key that can open doors. even a key hiding in the fob.
or valet key?
the fob has a battery too on most fobs. a coin cell

12 year old fob coin cells are EOL this old end of life where present,.

Have you tried both fobs? sounds to me like the button itself on the fob above the MBZ symbol for locking isn't working. You can take the key fob apart, and check the little buttons on the PCB / board itself for function. Sometimes they get stuck with dirt / grime to the point where the button itself under the plastic shell is not engaging.

I don't work on these, but , remove the rear seat, bolted in. or drill out the lock until it can be turned. Being a 98, you will still have to climb in it and release the latch by hand. And it is most likely covered. Break the cover off.

where are you, your key, in kitchen, standing near car, or in car or key inserted in the ignition, I will answer , IN KITCHEN.

the fob has a light. ok , Factory Fob, or aftermarket?

the car came with 2 fobs, new, so do both fail or act odd like this.
id bet not.
and the fob has and LED lamp , if it sticks on , that means'
the FOB is no good, the switches are stuck, ON.
time to buy a new FOB or get McGiver fix yours at x2 new cost.
you can also replace the battery and how that fixes it and or clean
the insides, of fob. at same time

the lamp flashes when the button is pressed.
so the button is stuck,, broken./

you may have the battery in backwards

A key should have come with the key FOB used to open rear hatch, lock glove box and center console. If don't have that key, you can jack car up, apply power to positive terminal of starter and a chassis ground, and the FOB should work.

there is a little notch on key, insert screw driver from the rear of the key lift the handle of the screwdriver upwards towards the front of the key (levering the rear part of the key backwards) when you get the rear part of the key out the lift off the top part and you will find the battery,

Does the battery need changing on the key fob?
you can check by using you'r mobile phone cam & pointing the key fob (ultra violet bulb) at the lens when pressing the button, you should see the light flashing on the key fob looking through the camera, you can use any camera, most of them will see the light as it's out of our sight range but cameras pick it up.
If not then unscrew the key fob & split it carefully (use an old credit card not a knife or screwdriver) & change the battery.
If the fob work's then the problem is with the receiver, usually up by the rear view mirror.

No easy way to do this - you need to remove the inside door panel from inside the truck and manually release the lock. You didn't say where the wiring was burnt, but when the door is open test for power at the lock solenoid - if not there when unlock is pressed, inspect the wiring (particularly at the two rubber wire casings connecting the door to the frame). If it is there, the lock solenoid is stuck and may have to be replaced.
