may want to do an oil change/filter on trans-then neccisary ajustments from a repair manual--if still persist then rebuild may be in order--trans can last 250 thou miles but heat is the killer

You have a choice of 75 90 or 75 140 gear oil. I'd opt for the 140 because It gives better film strength under loads. and there is no draw back to using it. If you have a positraction differential don't forget to put in posi additive.

Normanally you would remove the filler plug (upper left or right hand side) add fluid until it comes back out of the filler hole, replace the plug and you're done.

Suspension issue jeep

only on right turns?? a smaller tire would have resulted in damage if the rear is a locking type rearend. IF it is a locking rear end I would change the oil, noting the color and how it looks. replace it and add some "slip additive"............. IF its not a locking type axle, maybe a spider gear problem, but thats inside the housing, not out by the wheel. You may need to take the axle out and inspect the axle/ bearing.

As long as they are the same rearend and the same gears, yes. ie a 9.25 rear with 3.92 gears will not work where a Dana 44 with 3.55 gears was.

you have remove dist from motor then push out roll pin retaining gear then remove shaft the pickup assembly then reinstall

I am trying to change the ignition pickup

If you have the distributor out of the vehicle, there is a pin that goes through the drive gear. drive it out with a small drift or if you don't have one you can use an exotic tool such as a ten penny nail that has been blunted and ground down to size. Once the pin is out, slide the gear and any shims off the shaft and keep them in order fro replacement. Once the gear has been removed the shaft slides right out of housing. You can re-use the roll pin from the gear so don't loose it! Make sure you mark the rotor position using a reference mark on the block or you will mess with ignition timing. Rotor must point to the mark exactly after replacing. Sometimes you will need to use a long screwdriver to turn the oil pump shaft to allow the dist to fully engage.
