Because the circuit that feeds it power is not properly shutting down when you turn off the car. Could be a faulty ignition switch.
But what you can do and save some bucks is to just turn off the radio completely when you are leaving. Then the only juice it will consume is that used by the memory and clock circuits, which is normal and very low in drain.
Now if that radio is turning itself on when you leave the car you have two problems - 1 - a fubar radio with a mind of its own and 2 - a power circuit that is on when it should be off.
I would think not correct. GM vehicles of that era were equipped with R.A.P(Random Auxiliary Power) it would keep certain systems on after shutting the car off.....(lights, radio, power windows) for up to 8 minutes. Unless you open the door, that would shut everything down. So if your power is staying on with doors open, most likely one or both of the relays in the RAP is bad
This car has a RAP module ( Retained accessory power ) which keeps certainaccessory's powered up until you open the door. If its still operating after the door is opened then you have a problem with the RAP module
Turn on the power knob for the radio/clock. Wait until the clock display shows up. Press "set" button and use the 'Scan' and 'Seek' buttons to set the time.
