Repolaced alternator yesterday and in doing so, disconnected negative battery cable. following alternator install, and battery reconnect I have only driver's side power window, and lock control. No other windows can be opened and no other locks can be accessed by power, regardless of using driver controls or individual controls. how can these be reprogrammed without going to dealer?
There is no reprogramming for the door modules and sorry you dislike the dealer so much ! I work at a GM dealer ,have for over twenty years . No one knows your GM vehicle better . Your messing with something you have no clue about . The dealer is exactly the place you should be taking it to . Do you know the doors all have computers inside ? door modules , and can set DTC'S .Do you know what they are ? diagnostic trouble codes ! Do you know what serial data communications are ?

SOURCE: driver side door switches are not working,
Consult you manual for correct fuse applications and schematic for correct locations for your non-working components. Possible blown fuse.
SOURCE: power door locks, and power side windows wont owrk
check wiring at drivers door hinge inside protectve loom, should find broken wiring
SOURCE: Power window on driver side does not open either
First: Does the passenger side switch open the window. If so it is probably the master switch on the drivers door. On most of those the driver side is a master switch meaning one unit with 4 switches. Its very easy and cheap if you can find one at a junk yard just swap it out. You should be able to pry out the switch from the door panel and then click out the switch and plug in the new one.
Testimonial: "Thanks for the quick help... I just used the car and found that the windows were working fine. I beleive they must have been frozen..."

sounds to me like you better find another dealer or possibly an auto electric dealer they should have done it right the first time

You'll need to pull the door panel and check for power and ground at the 2 wire connector located near the window motor (there should be a dark blue wire and a brown wire). With a test light there should be power on one of the two wires at any time. If there is power on both wires with the switch in the up position than the switch is bad. If the only wire powered up in the up position is the dark blue wire than try tapping the motor while holding the switch in the up position. If it starts to work than the motor is bad.
On a side note check for power with all the connectors plugged in. You can also jump the connections at the motor. Supply a ground to the brown wire and supply power to the dark blue wire and the window should go up.

Park vehicle on level
ground.
2. Remove battery from vehicle.
3. Remove air cleaner outlet hose, engine
under cover ( right side ) and exhaust pipe # 2 .
4. Disconnect " B " terminal wire
and coupler from the Alternator ( Generator ) .
5. Remove Alternator ( Generator ) belt.
6. Remove power steering
pump. Do not disconnect hoses.
6. Remove Alternator ( Generator ) cover.
7. Remove Alternator ( Generator ) bracket
mounting bolts.
8. Remove Alternator ( Generator ).
Power Steering pump has three bolts- 2 behind the pulley
at 12 and 6 o'clock and one bolt on the back.
Once you get the power steering pump out of the way you can
remove the last bolt on the alternator
Ok...I did not remove
axle or disconnect hoses on power steering...I did unbolt power
steering pump and moved off to side.
after that I disconnected sensor on throttle
body and very carefully lifted alternator through the top where your air intake
assembly would have been at, right next to A.C. refrigerant lines. It
takes a minute , you HAVE TO BE CAREFUL NOT TO DAMAGE SENSOR!!
However it is a lot faster that taking off drive shaft and
exhaust pipe!
If you go to AutoZone .com they
have exploded diagrams of the parts you have to take off and they will show you
bolt locations, the power steering pump bolt at 6 o'clock drove me crazy.
P.S. Get a ratcheting 12 mil wrench, it's a life and knuckle saver!!
