I recently replaced the transmission on my 92camry le v6 which died at 203k miles. After installation and test driving i noticed that the odometer reading has jumped to 212K miles. What caused this a
Before tranny replacement a head gasket job was done with all the belts, lines and hoses and whatever is accessible replaced. The tachometer problem was noticed after the head gasket job. The tranny shifts seems normal from 1st all the way to the 4th. The vehicle have OD but i'm not sure if this is the 4th or an additional shift. Could it be the VSS?
hi,
when the check engine light comes on, your car goes into a mode where instead of everything being normal, things are forced, to try and compensate for something else being wrong. It most likely does need a new timing belt, and a complete tuneup INCLUDING plugs and wires. we have a 1984 toyota corolla and it purrs like ground rice, I suggest the tuneup to continue proper rice production.
Hi. 2005 Corolla CE. It's normal. They tend to do this when upshifting form 1st to 2nd gear. No timing chain readjustment needed.
96 Corolla. Overdrive not working properly, if not engaging after 45mph constantly. If driving on the city, is normal, but not after 45mph, when the car is trying to engage overdrive in order to save gas and preserve the trans gears. If not able to get help at the dealership, find another one and explain them the situation.
MAF failure can cause a range of engine performance problems including low gas mileage, shuddering, stalling, knocking or pinging.
The most reliable early symptom of a failing or failed MAF is the
illumination of the check engine light on the instrument panel.
Throttle Position Sensor failure symptoms
A car that seems to hesitate or stumble during acceleration may have a faulty throttle position sensor.
If your car idles unevenly or hesitates intermittently, regardless of
acceleration, the throttle position sensor may simply have a loose
connection.
Oxygen Sensor failure symptoms
A sudden decrease in
gas mileage
The defective oxygen
sensor can also show up as a check engine light or malfunction indicator
lamp illuminating in the vehicle's dash board.
Smog test failures can also be an
indication of a failed oxygen sensor. EPA (Environmental Protection
Agency) and CARB (California Air Resource Board) 50 to 60% of all smog
test / emission test related failures are attributed to the defective
oxygen sensor. Faulty O2 sensor leads to either low or high CO emissions
in the smog tests.
A bad oxygen sensor can cause a car's engine to idle roughly. A bad oxygen sensor causes an engine's air/fuel mixture to become too
lean. Normally, an air/fuel mixture that is too
lean (too much air, not enough fuel) will cause an engine to miss, or
misfire, especially when an engine is idling.
A bad oxygen sensor may misread or misinterpret an engine's air/fuel
mixture as being lean, especially during
acceleration. This can cause an engine to hesitate, or stumble.
Knock Sensor failure symptoms
Often a bad knock sensor will trigger the "check engine" light to flash on your vehicle's dashboard.
If the knock sensor is not working properly, you will likely hear sounds
emitting from the engine.
The vehicle will often shake or vibrate and misfire when the engine is
started.
The engine may emit strong exhaust and burning smells due to
the detonation in the cylinders.
Fuel economy is often affected, causing
the vehicle to burn more gas than usual and requiring frequent fuel
replenishment.
May have acceleration problems,
such as dragging, hesitation or jerking from the engine during speed
increases.
Pick-Up Coil failure symptoms
A lack of spark because the spark plugs are not receiving the
proper information to fire correctly.
The fuel injectors may fail to operate.
Rough idle may occur.
May cause engine stalling and an inability to accelerate smoothly.
Spark Plug Wires failure symptoms
Rough engine idle and/or misfire.
Engine hesitation, which is normally most apparent during acceleration.
Engine power loss and/or surging.
Ignition Switch failure symptoms
The dashboard lights will go off when the car stalls and the speedometer
and tachometer (if you have one) will go off and come back on again.
Vehicle is fails to start and stalls randomly while driving.
Switch gets overly hot.
Idle Air Control Valve failure symptoms
A faulty IAC will cause stalling problems at idle.
Most of the time if
you hold the gas pedal down it will run fine. These
symptoms can also come from an EGR valve that is stuck open.
If you
have a fast idle, check for an intake leak.
Distributor failure symptoms
Cylinder misfiring, engine shaking.
A check engine
light may be present.
If the distributor failed the vehicle will crank but not start.
Distributor Cap failure symptoms
Cylinder misfiring, engine shaking.
Trouble starting on a regular basis.
Starts okay but stalls and backfires once on the road.
High-pitched squealing noise.
Ignition Coil failure symptoms
A drop in power.
A total coil failure will cause a no spark, no run condition.
Decline in normal gas mileage.
May have black smoke out of the exhaust and smell of gasoline, rather than smelling like normal exhaust fumes.
May experience serious backfires, misfiring, and stalling.
Typically harder to start, especially when cold.
Ignition Control Module failure symptoms
High RPM misfire.
The car will
start and run fine, but will stop running anywhere from seconds to
minutes later. The engine may not restart immediately but if
left to cool for about 10 minutes will start fine.
Hesitation/misfire under acceleration.
Failure to start.
Fuel Pressure Regulator failure symptoms
One or more of the spark plugs may have become fouled out and blackened.
When you are idling the engine it is not running smoothly and it is
sputtering and spitting like it is going to die. If you haven't changed your fuel filter in a
while, you should do that first and see if it helps. If not, then check
the fuel pressure regulator.
Trouble starting the
car. It will turn over but takes a few extra tries before it
actually starts.
Tail pipe may have black smoke coming out of it.
Check the oil dipstick and see if you smell fuel on it.
Gasoline may be dripping out of the tailpipe.
The engine stalls when you press down on the gas pedal.
Fuel Filter failure symptoms
Engine may hesitate, stumble, or stall.
Rough engine idle.
Decrease in engine power.
Oil Pressure Switch failure symptoms
You might notice a leak from it, or a low oil pressure reading on the gauge.

There is no fuse for just the odometer, has main fuses for the whole instrument cluster . Odometer not working? instrument cluster problem. Have it checked by a professional repair shop.
Odometers
Each instrument panel cluster (IPC) is equipped with a season odometer and 2 trip odometers. The IPC uses the odometer rolling count message from the powertrain control module (PCM). The rolling count value is determined by counting the speed pulses from the vehicle speed signal (VSS). The IPC uses the rolling count data from the PCM and a software program to determine vehicle mileage. The odometers can be displayed in miles or kilometers. The units displayed is switched between English and metric by pressing the menu button on the driver information center (DIC) until the units mode is displayed. Pressing the set/reset button will select between English or Metric. . When the set/reset button is pressed to show the odometer in metric, km and the number will be displayed. When the odometer is in English, MI and the number will be displayed.
Season Odometer
The season odometer displays the total accumulated miles or kilometers of the vehicle. This value is permanently stored in the IPC. If an odometer malfunction occurs or if the IPC must be replaced, an authorized Delco service center must be contacted to program proper vehicle specifics, including mileage, for the IPC. The season odometer is capable of displaying 999,999 kilometers or 999,999 miles depending on units selected. Leading zeros are not displayed. The display will not roll-over to 000,000 if the maximum displayed miles or kilometers are reached. If the display limit is exceeded, the maximum value (999,999) is displayed. If the mileage is above 621,503 miles and metric units are selected the odometer shall display 999,999 km.
Circuit/System Testing
Ignition OFF, raise the vehicles drive wheels.
Engine ON, transmission in drive, verify the scan tool Vehicle Speed Sensor parameter matches the speedometer display.
? If the Vehicle Speed Sensor parameter does not match the speedometer display, replace the IPC.
Verify that the odometer is operating properly.
? If the odometer is not operating properly, replace the IPC.

i would say that is exactly what it is, can you run a diagnostic on it, this may clear any misleading sensor messages it has recieved/sent during the rebuilt etc
You may be able to get it replaced under warranty if it's less than 80,000 miles on the odometer.
To answer your other question, it all depends on how the PCM was blown. It may have shorted out just enough to cause a constant draw in the system. Maybe not noticeable right away, but weather changes etc. can cause the cumulative drain to be more than the battery is being charged while driving (if you're not putting a LOT of miles on when you drive it)
doing it your self is guessing
autozone and others do the code reading for free
at this point I would be checking the wires and connections as that distance after installing would be about right for a connection not put together properly would fall apart or a harness wire would burn through on the exhaust
if you know what you are looking for, it is the speedometer cable. if you have a mechanical odometer, then it is just the cable that is connected in your instrument panel and connected to your transmission.
if you can replace that cable then that would solve your problem.
if you have an electronic odometer , then you have to find your sending unit which is also located in your transmission. but it would be more complicated to test if it is defective.
