lower a posts one each side ie. kick panel trim.

Is it an electronic hand brake ?

the lighting system on stype are permanent at batt pos and are grounded by the body controle module located lower lh apost area and suffer from corrosion of wiring and connectors check there may be both probs caused by corroded connectors

on cars that tell you to depress brake to shift there is a cable that goes fron the brake pedal to the shifter mechanism that unlocks the shifter...it sounds like the cable is broke or may be the clip or pin that holds it on may have come off.

Check your fluid level in your resevoir under the hood. If it is low it will trigger the red light. Let me know.

check to see if you have a switch on the pedal for the berake lights........

car has 4 wheel disc brakes take off the rear pads and rotors u will see a set of shoes on the inside of that adjust thiem up and u should get alot more hand brake

the "brake" light in the dash is a warning light to indicate you have a serious problem with your brakes. Suggest you get it fixed immediatly.
