Check your oil dipstick for coolant, or a mucky substance. Your symptoms sound like a blown head gasket.

  • Anonymous Mar 01, 2013

No milky substance, and if I run the car no faster than 60mph, the temp stays cool, all day, week, months. I'd run it hard at 65-80mph, and it get hot, boiling temperture. I don't think the thermostat is fully opening, and restricting coolan flow. My engine runs fine and like I said no milky stuff in my oil. I am going to pull out my thermostat this weekend and see if the water flows and see if it will overheart.

My 2001 pt cruiser limited over heated. It has already had a new radiator and both fans replaced with in the year. Should i now replace the water pump which is the original?

Overheating is caused by:
1. plugged radiator core
2. Wrong mix of water and coolant.
3. Low coolant level.
4. stuck thermostat
5. hoses collapsing.
6. Air lock in system
7. Bad fins on water pump.

I have a 2002 PT. that is overheating, but not all the time. I can take 1 or 2 trips in town and it does not overheat, then it overheats. I have replaced the water pump, Thermostat, low and high fan...

Do you hear the cooling fans coming on ,if you do then you might have a blocked radiator or cylinder head / head gasket problem. If you dont ever hear the fans come on you have an electrical problem ,maybe a fan switch or motor or wiring/fuse issue.

2002 PT CRUISER OVERHEATING I HAVE TO KEEP THE HEATER ON SO THAT IT DONT OVERHEAT

First thing to check is the operation of your cooling fan, and coolant level

After that you should check the drive belt and tensioner, Thermostat and water pump.

You may also need to flush your cooling system

Engine overheating when AC is on, Water Pump is working, Thermostat is working, Coolant is Good, Burning Smell when AC is turned on for a short moment but not a belt burning Only overheats when sitting...

Your thermostat might be sticking which rarely happens. You should also check your fan and belts from the fan. Located behind the radiator. Hope this helps!!

Describe your 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser timing

Replace the belt at 100k with a new water pump pulley and tensioner. It would not be a bad idea while u r in there to replace the center motor mount. When the mount fails it is a pricey fix not a bad Idea to replace it since you have to remove it to do the belt.
