Transmission acting up but not all the time

For the last 2 years, off and on (mostly in the warmer months) my silhoutte will maybe call it like a buck or something with the transmission when you start out in a low gear at a stop sign or something. Once you get your van to a certain speed it is ok until you slow down again and start going. If you pull over and shut it off and restart it is ok until it does it again. In the winter for about 5 months it did not do it at all. Please help.

First run a fault code test on the engine control module to make sure the problem is not in the electronics, if all is ok then the transmission is starting to fail.

SOURCE: bucking, slow acceleration, & shuts off

it can be couple of thing Try a fuel injector cleaner or new fuel injectors.it can be vacuum leak. Engines need a vacuum to run especially at idle which is when your car dies. It could be a stuck EGR.
If the check engine light comes on it will store a code so take it to a shop and pay them to read the codes. This may give you a starting point.

SOURCE: transmission

Your vehicle has the 3.4 ltr engine and the 4T65E model transmission, which i have rebuilt many, many of.First, verify the transmission fluid level is FULL,and not low, also verify by pulling the pan, that the filter is in place. If all that checks out, then the problem is internal. For the problem you are describing, there are two areas to address. The first, which can be checked outside the trans with a 0-300 psi gauge is the EPC solenoid.EPC stands for Electronic Pressure Control. It is an electrically controlled solenoid that regulates mainline pressure inside the trans. The OEM (original equipment manufacturer) solenoid is known to be problematic, and erratic, causing your vehicle's symptoms of neutralling out,and slamming back into gear. The other area is the Forward piston inside the Forward/3rd gear input drum. The steel piston gets a ridge worn into it,and when it tries to apply at a stop light upon taking off,the ridge causes the piston to hang up momentarily, and then when it frees up,again,a neutral/slam into gear.Common problem that i have had to address over and over on these transmissions.Good luck.

over time our starters get a flat spot on them from wear. Or the solenoid is starting to go out. The solenoid is an electric switch that mounts on the starter. In my opinion its your starter....

Why is my pt cruiser losing power, but not stalling?

I thought it was a fuel problem but when you say the tach and speedometer go from zero to full speed and RPM has me stumped Thinking maybe the computer was malfunctioning. Then you talked about the transmission bucking and that made me thinking it was slipping and then grabbing again slipping and grabbing. Check the fluid on flat surface engine warm and look at the dipstick and make sure it is full and not over full the color should be pink not dark and shouldn't have a strong burnt smell. Do you have the check engine light on the dash if so have it checked for free at an auto parts store and see what code is in there

I have a 2004 Chrysler Sebring that's been bucking

The best thing you could do is check for codes. Especially since the light has been on for a while. The codes will likely give you some clues as to where to start looking.

I have a 2003 Impala. It has been runing real sluggish for a while. Now it dies when I step on the gas and I have to lift to make the transmission shift. I cannot go on the interstate. My car won't go over...

Most likely the catalytic converter. It is not an expensive fix, about $250 to $300 installed is all you should pay. You should also get the fuel filter changed at this time if you have not done so in the last 6 months to a year. The filter plus install should be about $50 to $75 bucks. Your car should be better than you can ever remember with these two changes.

thanks for giving a good deal of info to go on. When i think of what temperature will have an effect on I think of oil. Oil would work better in winter because it is thicker and lubricates better. In summer it will thin out and maybe with the higher mileage it has an effect on the motor power. What oil was used on the last oil change. Most popular is a 10w-30w. Maybe summer would be better to use straight 30w. If this helps please reply and good luck

1998 dodge grand caravan transmission slipping

A good place to start would be a fluid and filter change, and be sure you use proper (recommended) fluid. Then I would remove connectors to solenoids, modules etc, on transmission and clean them well with contact/electrical cleaner. Disconnect battery prior just for sake of safety & to make sure no circuits get shorted while doing it.Then give it a try, and see if any improvement. If still acting up, I'd spend a few bucks on at least having diagnosed by a knowledgeable technician at a dealership, or a transmission repair chain. Sometimes it can be a solenoid or speed sensor, or something not too expensive. Once you have proper diagnosis, then make your decision.

1887 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 6 cylinder....computer replaced twice, sensors replaced 4 time, the problem still exists. Engine goes to crawl (maybe computer is in limp fail safe) sticks in low gear....

Went to the Zone and got them to analyze the engine and get the codes.

Speedmeter filling around.......replaced sensor on transmission
Engine acts like it doesn't have fuel....... Seafoamed the throttle body and made sure the carbon on sides and flapper valve was removed. replaced manifold sensor.

Turned the key off and on 5 times to reset the check engine light.

All this fixed for $62 dollars. Fixed it in the parking lot.

Runs great. Now I don't know how long it will last but I know the Seafoam in the throttle body scrub bit really makes thing right about once a month. Also adding gas additives every other tank full to keep fuel injectors clean.
