SOURCE: 2006 VW tdi black smoke while accelerating

Hi
The only sensible way forward is to get a list of fault codes from the onboard diagnostic system and take it from there. You could either go to a VW dealer, or if you are technically minded you could buy a £15 interface cable, download some free "VAG diagnostic software" and run it on a portable computer.
There are lots of possible reasons for the problem and guessing will not really help. If these suggestions turn out to be sound, please give my reply a "Fixya!"rating, If they do not, please hold off rating and add a comment with more details so I can try to help you further. Cheers, D

SOURCE: glow plug light flashes on97 tdi sharan

on some diesel engines the glow plugs will cycle after the engine is started. it does sound like your glow plugs are not all working that would cause the hard start and excessive smoke when it does start.

SOURCE: vw polo 1.4 tdi idle problem

Hey.. i just had this exact problem in my GTI and after 2 weeks of trial and error, I had to replace my Coolant Temp Sensor.. it was bad so it threw off the fuel metering valve which was part of the crazy idling problem.. I cant be 100% sure because our cars are not exactly the same but I mean we have the EXACT same symptoms so .. justa suggestion. Use the VAG-COM sensor reader and you'll be golden.

SOURCE: MISFIRING ON CYLINDER 1 VW POLO 1.4 3CYLINDER

I have changed a few cylinder heads under warranty for this type of problem. The exhaust valve guides wear, this causes the exhaust valve to seat badly, giving low compression. if one cylinder compresion reading is more than about 50 psi below the others, then this warrants head removal. It is quite a job, due to the fact that the camshft id chain driven. If you are up for it then once the head is removed, poor liquid into the exhaust ports and see if it leaks out through any of the exhaust valves.

SOURCE: have a polo 1.4 tdi and the car does not rev up !

It may be a few different problems but try this first.Take the air filter out and try the engine, then.If its a lot different the filter may be clogged. This will cost zero but may give you an answer.Hope this helps. PS dont go driving around without the air filter as it will damage the motor

How many k you have on you clock
sound like it is burning engine oil and diesel
ask you mechanic to check compression on it
If the air cleaner is block it does happen but black smoke
looks like the motor is bad

I drive a vw polo tdi 2006,when I went up the brigde it made a strange noise then black smoke started coming from the exhaust could not see even the car behind me,what coused it?

TDI I take is turbo direct injection so if that is the case you have a turbo problem or a split intercooler
what ever , the air/ fuel ratio has altered to excessive fuel
the noise could be a blown intercooler hose , split intercooler or turbine wheel in the turbo breaking off
Take it in for a proper diagnosis and have the codes read

check the pcv valve if bad it will allow engine to **** oil into the air intake and cause smoke, another things is to test the head gasket could be burning a little coolant

A4 misfire at 2000 rpm

The most likely cause is a failed mass air flow sensor and yes there is no code but if you look at the live data it will be obvious.
