SOURCE: Remove fan from water pump on a 1997 Ford F150 4.2 Liter

There is a special tool that is required to hold the fan clutch. Then the fan screws out of the clutch. The tool can be bought or rented at your friendly parts store like autozone, etc. It will look something like this:  http://www.amazon.com/Universal-Clutch-Water-Pulley-Holding/dp/B000RT924E

SOURCE: ford falcon el. wont start. raa checked has spark

Most older cars have a mechanical fuel pump mounted to the side of the engine. Usually turns from the Cam or Crankshaft. i would check under the Valve Cover area. should be a small pump that is mechanically driven by the engine. probably half the size of your fist. Trace the fuel line from the carb to it. most oder cars have this set-up. I hope this helps you out. Never worked on a Ford Falcon. My 74 dodge B100 had that as well as my 78 Lemans. Good Luck!

Hi Dazza

The tool you're looking for is called a pickle fork. (A.K.A. ball joint separator).

  1. Get a new one
  2. pull the cotter pin
  3. Loosen and remove nut
  4. Insert pickle fork above ball joint
  5. Hit it with a hammer
  6. When it drops, unscrew it from the sleeve
  7. Put new one in
Then have an alignment done

I have a 2003 olds mobile Alero, it began to over heat riding around the city so I replaced both the thermostat & water pump but the car still over heats. What else could be wrong?

most likely air in the colant system, an air bubble trapped when water pump was replaced. An eazy way to tell if air is in the coolant system squeze the upper radiator hose, if seems empty or can hear coolant swishing around, then there is air in the coolant system and also coolant level not compmetely topped off.

Top off coolant with Antifreeze Concentrate, NOT WATER. water will boil and evaporate, 50/50 antifreeze mix is good but if you dont know how much water has allready been added to the coolant system then straight shots of Antifreeze is recommended when toppong off coolant level.

Remove Air and Top Off Coolant

•While Engine is cool
•Remove radiator cap
•Slowly fill to the rim with Antifreeze, while at the same time squeezing the upper radiator hose to swoosh around coolant, try to get as full as you can.
•Replace Radiator Cap
•Start engine and switch air fan on high
•Remove radiator cap
•Squeez upper radiator hose and add more Antifreeze as Nessesary
•Notice preasure on the coolant hose, while adding antifreeze Concentrate preasure on the hose will stiffin up,
When coolant is full turn off the motor.

Best way to change coolant in 2003 sierra

With engine cold, remove radiator cap. At bottom of radiator on left side (as you stand in fronof truck), there is a plastic drain plug that screws into the radiator. This plug does not look like a bottle cap, rather it looks like a large, raised tab. Turn counterclockwise to remove. Have a large pan under the truck at this location, or have the truck parked on the grass. Allow to drain completely. Dispose of the old antifreeze and do let children or pets drink it; it is deadly poison. If you want to do this right, replace the plug, refill the radiator with water only, replace the radiator cap, start engine and let run until opwerating temperature is reached (about 20 minutes), then turn engine off, let cool completely, and repeat the drain procedure. This will more thoroughly remove the old antifreeze from the system. Now refill the radiator with the proper mixture of new antifreeze and water, run engine to proper operating temperature. turn off engine and let cool completely. Add additional water and antifreeze into the coolant overflow bottle if necessary. After changing antifreeze, you may need to add more again after couple of days.

How to adjust idle on ford falcon el 6 cylinder

wam the car up, disconnect the idle speed control valve wiring plug (idle control valve sits on top of the throttle body) then set the idle to 700rpm with the grub screw stop just above where the throttle cable fits to the throttle body. Reconnect theidle control valve and you're done. It may take a few k's driving for the ECU to relearn the new throttle stop position. The idle speed control valve is only used by the ECU to add idle speed when extra load is put onto the engine such as power steering or air con use, the base idle is set mechanically on the old falconns.
