Timming Chain Noise-Nissan Altima-1995.

I own a nissan altima,1995 with 305,000 kms odometer readings.

Recently this car which otherwise was running fine, has started to give problems. Some of the problems are as follows:-

--after starting the engine, when its' in the rev--there would metallic noise coming from the engine compartment

--While backing and the steering turned fully towards right, there would be sharp metallic noise.

-If the engine is idled after the vehicle have run for a while there would be hesitation.

My mechanic told me the essential problem is due to timing chain, either the guide is loose or broken.

Any idea of fixing timing chain related problem, cost involved,or get to know if it the root cause of the problem.

Thanks.

P.Goswami.

It definately has the miles to need a timing chain. but yhe steering problem has nothing to do with it. Mechanics are like Dr.s Get a second opinionfrom someone that is more for you than the buck.

2005 Nissan Altima makes rattling/vibration noise

It is possible that you have some timing chain noise, especially if you have the 3.5L engine. The secondary timing chain tensioners on the 3.5 have a known problem, Nissan has issued a service bulletin regarding this and there is an updated part to replace them. It is not a cheap job, but your dealer may give you some "goodwill" depending on your mileage. If you have the 2.5L the problem may a couple of other things...even more serious! They had catalytic converters that came apart and got ingested into the engine, eventually destroying it. Try googling "Altima rattle" and include your engine size in the search. There is a ton of info on the net about noises in these cars.

I have an 03 nissan altima engine makes loud clicking noise

1st check the the oil level and the vehicle's oil type.(owners manuel) 5w30-10w30
10w 30 is a thicker oil and could possibly be causing this.(Moves more freely through the engine heats the oil)

'94 Nissan Altima rattles

Hi there,
you will need new upper timing chain and sprockets. Common problem on altima your year. Nissan has TSB for it. First they had us remove the upper timing chain guide, but after that, they had us replace all top chain components.
