Oil pressure light goes on and off sporadicly

This happened before and after my oil change. Could it be the sensor? It happens when going around corners and also while sitting at the traffic lights. I would like some input before having to have whole engine torn apart. The engine is not making any more noise that before. It is not ticking.

Could very well be a oil pressure sending unit
replace that before tearing down the engine!

the warning light connects to a sensor that uses a simple on/off switch that reads the oil pressure through a diaphragm attached to the engine. if the diaphragm is not working right on/off, on off

SOURCE: low oil pressure indicator at low rpms (idle) '97 olds V8

Low pressure when at idle, after the engine has warmed up and the oil has thinned, indicates that the oil pump is worn and needs to be replaced.

Sounds like your oil pump is bad - I'd have that checked. You can adjust throttle via the screw on the throttle line (look for the intake and there should be somthing resembling a bicycle cable going to the round throttle body). Tighter = higher idle. Fix the cause as soon as possible as this can destroy your engine quickly.

SOURCE: oil pressure gauge goes to 0 when idled, but goes

You could try thicker oil or stop using synthetic or add some lucas oil treatment or change the oil. The sender could be bad too. A diag is in order because if there is no presure the engine will soon die.

I would scan for engine codes to look for any clues. Then look at fuel mix, air flow, O2 sensors. All if this will provide information to tell you where to start.
Out of the blue guess is that you have and air leak in the throttle body, plug not firing right, dirty fuel filter, etc. Something starting to fail but not totally gone yet.

Oil Pressure Loss

By the sound of it you are still driving the vehicle and it hasnt destroyed itself so I would guess that the oil pressure sensor is failing.

Oil sensor light and alarm keep going off unless accelerating. New oil and filter. Any idea's ?

Low oil pressure. Replace the oil pressure sensor, if still happens, you may need to replace your oil pump. A blown gasket will also cause a drop in pressure

Overheating car

There may be an issue with your oil pressure sensor.
You also probably have a faulty water pump that is functioning under revs but not at idle, what happens if you rev it mildly at idle

After driving my car 2006 chevy impala for about 20 miles the dashboard warning light oil pressure low stop engine and the oil warning light appears, but if step on break or slow down it goes out..wha

Verify that the engine has the proper amount of oil. The inertia from accelerating may be moving the oil in the oil pan away from the sensor and causing it to send a signal, then when you slow the oil levels out and the sensor go's off. I've had this happen alot with a taurus that I owned. The simple solution was to top off the oil to the correct level and the sensor did not come on again (until it ran low again, had a leaky oil plug on oil pan).

On my 93 Dodge Caravan ES 3.3L, when it comes to a stop and idles (at a light mostly) the check gauges light comes on. When the check gauges light comes on the oil gauge is at the bottom. When I tap...

Okay What it means is that the oil in your car is either low in level or the oil pressure at low revolutions is low. I highly recommend you to stop driving the car when this happen because you can internally damage the engine with a low oil or a low pressure of oil. Check the oil level first..make sure level is fine and oil looks good. Black and burned oil will give you a low oil pressure as well. If it happen that your car need a oil change. Make sure you get it done and see if the problem goes away. Very rarely oils pressure sensor goes bad but if oil is new and level is fine you can take the oil pressure sensor and connect a tester for a oil pressure. If this is not under the manufacturer specifications.. oil pump is worn out and you have to replace it for a new one.
Good luck and don't forget to rte me. Thanks

the gauge should be at around 40 psi steady and higher at higher rpms, try using thicker oil if you have high milage ,if no change go ahead replace the oil pressure switch. hope this helps you please vote.

Oil pressure drops, metal shavings, and somehow my oil level incr

My truck does the same thing, pressure never drops to 0 but drops low, replaced the oil pressure sensor and same thing happened. My oil is always black and has a lot of metal in it, next time you change your oil, pour a quart of transmission fluid into the oil and let it run for 10 minutes or so, this should thin out the oil and possibly unclog some of the ports that may be gummed up. What could have happened with the dipstick is that the old oil was too nasty to drain all the way, with the fresh oil it could have thinned out and raised the level, try the transmission fluid trick and see what happens, next possibility is to have the engine scoped to see whats going on inside

see if you have any oil level or pressure sensors. sometimes these can get gunked up. You may need a new oil pump. I suggest you start using a senthetic oil (valvoline, mobil 1 is reccomended) after u get the problem fixed.

In my 02' Trailblazer oil pressure gauge goes below 0

I have this same problem with my 2002 trailblazer; however, I goofed up and had a mechanic look at it, since I was perplexed as to what was going on with it. He told me the oil pump needed replacing and it ended up costing me around a $950. Needless to say, it still happens. A grand down the drain - it wasn't the oil pump. The oil level is always good. This generally occurs when I've run the vehicle for a while and then come to a stop. It occurs quite often during the spring/summer and doesn't happen all that much during colder months.

OIL SENSOR LIGHT ON 2001 Audi 2.8liter

It could simply be maybe the person changing your oil never reset the light? or you have a oil pressure sensor leaking or not working.
most of the time its someone never reset the oil change light. even before it goes on it goes by mileage, so maybe it didnt go off yet cause you cnahged it a tad early.so noone even tried to reset it.

I guess you could have an oil pressure problem, but thats going the extreme route.. but if nothing else shows that could be a problem.
