My sisters grand am will run fine, but when she shuts off the car it still sounds like its running. it sounds louder than just a fan going.... i dont understand why it would still keep running when the key is turned off and out of the ignition. any ideas?
SOURCE: Fan runs after car shut off
You may need to replace your thermostat. This is normal for the fan to run after you turn your car off but if you say its running for 20 minutes or longer, it may mean your thermostat is stuck and causing the fan to run longer to cool off the radiator. Its a good thing for the fan to run. Heat is your enemy. I rather the fan run than no fan at all, if your car overheats, you could blow a gasket or warp your valves and its really pricey if that happens
SOURCE: starts and runs 3-5 seconds and shuts down
Sounds like your security system is shutting the car down. You should be able to leave the key on for 15 minutes and it will reset itself. Make sure you are using factory keys, and they are in good condition.

this is easy fix i had same thing happen when you start your car and it dies don't touch your key for no less than 11 min then turn it to off for no less than 30 sec the book says you might have to repeat this 4 times it worked the first time for me

Could be the timing chain/belt. Common problem with 2.4 engines.
