Change Engine Air Filter in 1999 Buick Century

What is the exact procedure to replace the engine air filter in a 1999 Buick Century, the instructions were vague.

  • kkpatel87 Jun 22, 2009

Thanks guys, sorry for the vagueness, its a V6 3.1L, and i was more so talking about the step where you have to remove the air duct...it kept saying wingnuts in the manual but all i see is a clamp holding it to the cover of the housing. Also there are set of wires, im assuming they belong to the sensor as solasknows mentioned.

Well you didn't say what engine is in it so,I'll wing it. Assuming it's a v6, the airbox is located in the front, probably driver side. Remove the 4 or 5 wing nuts or Phillips head screws. Gently but firmly lift the top housing & slide the old filter out. Put the new one in,making sure it's in the same way as the old one came out. It can't go in upside down anyway but I'm being specific. Re-install the housing & done!!

Where do I add Freon for my air conditioner

On the driver's side of the engine compartment, to the rear of the air filter/air intake box, is an air conditioner line with a fitting pointed straight up.
It is about 6" below the top of the air filter box.

Be cautious not to overfill the system.

1999 buick century coolant on top of intake manifold no engine lights on

Carefully check all hoses & clamps. If leak/seepage not found then check for leak along the intake manifold - the manifold gasket could be leaking and this is quite common.

I replaced the air filter in my 1999 Buick Century. I can't remember how the old one went in. I placed the wired side of the filter toward the engine, is that correct?

The wired side faces the air intake, not the engine. other wise, if the wire were to some how break or corrode, the debris will not enter the engine. Thanks for using Fixya.

I have a 2000 Buick Century. I have replaced the cabin air filter, but I am having problems replacing a black plastic vent approx. 12''x5''. I can't figure out how it is to be re-install.Can you help?

The plastic vent is installed vertically in front of the air filter. The two slotted tabs on the bottom slip over the metal frame of the filter compartment with the hand grip resting on the cowl.

2000 Buick Century air filter

GM hasn't used any wing nuts on their air filter in cars since they switched to fuel injection. It's either going to be several clips or screws holding the air box together. Follow the air duct from throtle body towards air box. It's normally on drivers side. Should be a flat box with the air duct coming out of it.
