ok, heres the deal. the coolant recovery is working fine. What gives rise to suspect overheating?

Iss the fan coming on?.If it heats up moving or ifling, Yes, The thermostatis in question. Speeds under 35, the fan is in question. Over 35 mph, the fan is negated by the ram air effect through the raddiator, so if it heats up above 35, thermostat issues. The thermostat should be removed when flushing cooling system. If your radiator cap vents below 12 lbs, The cooling system will perge . The pressure in the radiator maintained by the cap raises the boiling point. One lb. of pressure raises boiliing point by 2 degrees, so a good cap is a must. Let the engine cool and when you start it immediately look in the recovery bottle. the overflow hose tip submerged, look for bubbles.. If you see smokey little bubbles you have a combustion leak into the cooling system. If I confused you, let me know

I would flush out the whole system. sounds like something is building back-pressure. If you do re-chande the thermostat, get a 'fail-safe' one that remains open if it fails. If this does not solve the problem, it may be a blown head gasket...this would also cause back pressure in the cooling system by allowing the the fireing pressure to escape through to the cooling system.

yes, the thermastat could have failed due to severe heat and then re-cooling several times

My son took his car to Ramona tire shop because his 2006 mustang was overheating thay said the problem is this

they are not qualified to repair a wheel barrow
your son is wasting his money and time dealing with them
the first test for overheating is a compression test to check for head gasket or cracked head/s
water pumps do not cause over heating as they are only water circulators
thermostats often do and if not installed correctly will still cause a problem
find yourself an accredited service center with experience on your make of vehicle and get a proper diagnosis and quote

I can't give you any specifics on how to change your water pump, but I can answer your questions about the thermostat. Yes, the heat will work withou a thermostat. And yes, a car will overheat without one, especially in the summer months. The purpose of a thermostat is to allow cooler water to flow into your block, but also to allow the water adequate time to be cooled in the radiator. Without the thermostat, water is continuously cycling through your coolant system, getting hotter and hotter. Often I see people with malfunctioning thermostats jsut remove them, sometimes on the side of the road, just to get where they're going.

I have a bmw 328i 1996 and it overheats but my oil light comes on and soon after the car starts to try and cut of i changed spark plugs and new oil change........ wats wrong with my baby

Most likely a bad Thermostat or Water Pump. Replace the Thermostat, the cheapest part, and if it still overheats replace the water pump.

if your radiator has a cap remove it and start the motor turn the heater on high and put it on defrost watch the coolant when the bubbles stop coming out and the fluid is at a full level there should be no more air in the system. a miss fire is caused by bad plugs or plug wires and i would back flush the heater core remover the hoses going to the firewall and flush the heater core with water from your garden hose. to check the water pump start the motor and watch the pump to see if any fluid comes from it.

2005 kia spectra over heating

Did you install a new thermostat and make sure to bleed all the air out of the system when you replaced the radiator? If you didn't, or installed a Stant thermostat, replace it with a FACTORY OEM thermostat. Make sure the cooling system is bled by opening your radiator cap (WHILE THE CAR IS OFF AND COLD), starting the car and running the heater. Add coolant to the radiator as the engine heats up, until is at normal operating temperature AND starts spitting coolant back out.

Hope this helps,
matt

No heat and thermostat light just came on. What's wrong?

first check to see if there is proper amount of coolant in the reservoir and then put on gloves while engine is running squeeze upper radiator hose together if hose trys to open up while holding it the water pump is probably still working and when was last time drive belt was changed because it could cause this problem because it is slipping
