2001 jaguar vandee plas gear stuck in park position

there is a solenoid triggered by the brake switch to allow the shifter to be moved from park that can go bad try and shift it when the car is in the assec position

98 Suburban 5.7L, automatic trans is stuck in park - no previous shifting problems, I know that the brake switch also operates the brake/transmission solenoid (BTS). Stepping on the brake pedal prior to starting the vehicle allows shifting from park to another gear. When I switch the key to the "on" position, I don't hear the BTS click. I can start the vehicle and the brake lights work fine. I just can't shift out of Park. I am unemployed and I am trying to troubleshoot this problem and fix it myself. Please help!

I think you need the dealer to look at this.

SEE IF BRAKE LIGHTS WORKING.IF NOT CHECK FUSE.BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH HAS TO HAS POWER SO THE BRAKE TRANSMISSION SHIFT INTERLOCK WILL WORK SO YOU CAN SHIFT OUT OF PARK.IF ALL IS GOOD CODE SCAN CAR FOR A ELECTRONIC TRANSMISSION CONTROL UNIT SELECTOR. FAULT CODE.

It is probably not the shift linkage causing your concern. All modern vehicles have a feature called Shift Interlock. It doesn't allow the shifter on automatic equipped vehicles to be moved from park without the key in the ignition and the brake applied. There should be a bypass that will allow you to atleast drive the car for the time being. Check your owners manual to find where it is. It's usually around the shifter. The most common cause for this problem are the brake switch or the shift lock solenoid.
