SOURCE: 95 GMC Jimmy 4.3l W vin rough idle

My problem was solved when I repaired my 4 wd activation dash switch. The switch was contacting on 2WD & 4HI at the same time. The front differential activation is vacuum activated possibly creating a tug of war that didn't actually engage it but drained off vacuum from the engine? A theory at best but stumbbled across it because I knew the switch wasn't working properly I repaired it and low and behold rough idle disappeared and all is good for 3 weeks running.

SOURCE: I am getting a misfire

Here is a copy of the "Policy Adjustment" that I took to the dealer with me this morning. Hope this helps any of you.

----------
Subject: Special Policy Adjustment - Catalytic Converter #05551 -(09/14/2005)

2001-02 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX
2001-02 BUICK REGAL

Some customers of 2001-02 Chevrolet Impala, Monte Carlo; Pontiac Grand Prix; and Buick Regal model vehicles, equipped with a 3.4L (RPO LA1 - VIN E) or 3.8L (RPO L36 - VIN K) V6 engine, may experience a condition where the vehicle exhaust catalytic converter is replaced due to complaints of lack of power or illumination of the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL). This may be due to the front endcone insulation from the catalytic converter breaking away and blocking the front of the first catalyst brick and preventing the free flow of exhaust gas through the converter.
Special Policy Adjustment
This special policy covers the condition described above for a period of 10 years or 120,000 miles (190,000 km), whichever occurs first, from the date the vehicle was originally placed in service, regardless of ownership. The repairs will be made at no charge to the customer.
For vehicles covered by Vehicle Service Contracts, all eligible claims with repair orders on or after September 15, 2005 are covered by this special policy and must be submitted using the labor operation codes provided with this bulletin. Claims with repair orders prior to September 15, 2005 must be submitted to the Service Contract provider.

SOURCE: will not start after it stalls untill about 5-10 minutes

Your problem is most likey your intake gasket. They have a problems on the SOHC engines where the intake gasket shifts & starts leaking vacuum at the #1 intake runner causing a missfire on Cylinder #1.While the engine is Idling buy some throttle plate cleaner & spray throttle cleaner down at the #1 Intake runner where the intake meets the head.If engine stalls or runs rougher that's your problem.I have replaced dozens of those gaskets for tha reason!! They have a beter design gasket through saturn parts. It has a coating on it to prevent reoccurance. Also you should check you Coolant Temp Sensor,if it's ceramic it's most likely bad.Replacement is brass from saturn.Good Luck

SOURCE: Getting a code of misfire on cylinder 2, Bank 1 and lean code

Higher compression usually only happens when extra oil is introduced in to the cylinder.Your rings seem good due to the good compression .If there is a worn valve guide in that cylinder this would allow oil to seep into the cylinder .Also allowing for extra rocker arm movement which could be your chirping noise and cause a rough idle. The lean code sounds like something different like the is still a vacuum leak.It sounds like you know cars well ! I hope this helps

SOURCE: vehicle came in for check

A misfire at idle that smooths out at cruise is ALMOST ALWAYS caused by a vacuum leak. Take a hard look at your fuel trims at idle. If the Bank 2 Long Term Fuel Trim is more than + a couple points higher than the Bank 1 trim, your problem is most likely a vacuum leak. If the Fuel Trims even-out while holding the engine at 2000 RPM for about 20 seconds, then a vacuum leak is DEFINITELY your problem. I would suspect a leaking lower intake gasket leak because an upper plenum leak will normally affect all cylinders.

was the timing belt broken?

Are you sure the cams are aligned correctly?

If the belt was broken It may be wise to do a compression test. This should tell you if a valve has bent.

Sounds like a charging problem. When your battery runs low there is not enough current to operate the sensors properly. When you charged the battery it thought the system was fine till it gets low again. I would have your alternator checked and battery. Good luck and have a great day.

I have a 1994 Subaru Legacy and It has started making a "knocking sound". Cked the oil, it was OK

knocks when cold ( Start ), then sort of diminish or disappears when warming up ???

Knocking goes faster when accelerating when cold ???

If Yes, then Piston knocking on the wall of the cylinder . The sound disappears as the engine is getting warmer it dilates and the gap gets smaller.

If this just started,

1. Put quality oil & filter ( Mobile Full Synthetic Oil & Mobile Oil Filter or Purolator )

2. Do not put cleaning agents mixed with oil.

3. Personaly i've put "Restore" Engine Restorer & Lubricant in cars with more then 200 000 km and the results are amazing. But only "Restore". My Volvo is at close to 300 000 km, and it runs great. It's not a cleaning agent.

By experience if the knocking just started you can put an easy extra 100 000 km on the engine before a rebuilt. Quality Oil & let the engine warm up ( 3 mins ).

Most of the time it is difficult to start cold,

It is very p0ossible that the fuel system is a little clogged. It happens to all cars eventually especially if you use the cheaper fuels like supermarkets etc.

Anyway, you can try a decent Injector Cleaner and even change the oil but again use a decent Engine Flush. The stuff I use on my own and friends motors is Injection-Correction.co.uk. You can buy it online and it works a treat. Same stuff the prestige garages use...

Usually a dose of this stuff will give the fuel system a good clear out and make it alot easier to start when cold. Starting issues are usueally fuel related or electrical but by the sound of yours it is purely fuel related. Try it out and reap thebenefits.....

I'm thinking this might have something to do with yr air filter.Try opening yr air filter box taking out yr air filter and leaving it open for a bit and see if you still have the problem. If this solves the problem just replace yr air filter.
