If I'm reading this correctly it sounds like you have corrosion or a. Almost broken through wire on the trailer side of the brake light system. I would start checking for rubbed through wires and corroded connections
Check the brake light function. If the lights work then replace the shift lock solenoid. If they don't work then replace the brake light switch and retry.
hi,if it has drum bracks it could be brack dust inside the drum,if its disk bracks they might need copper- slick put on the brack pades,on the side that faces the brack-caliper. hope this was some help.
