1998 crown vic police. Had check engine light with misfire code to cyl 3, 6, 7, 8. Changed plugs and new coil packs. The car still shows misfire codes and still runs bad. Any ideas?

had the same thing with my crown vic on the #8 cylinder. changed plugs and wires. still missing. wound up replacing the coil pack. you can check resistence of the coil between companion spark plug towers. ford marks each tower with 2 cylinder #'s. resisistence should be around 10-12 ohms
measure resistence between companion outputs. they should be marked on the coill pack.12 ohm nominal. mesasure the resistence of the input terminal. 3 ohm nominal. i recently had a coil pack go bad on a '97 crown vic where the number 8/2 tower was reading good resistence when i kept the meter probe steady. if i moved it around while still making contact, it would change. i was getting a cyl. 8 misfire and found a bad wire and the plug was worn funny, so i changed the plugs and wires. this did not fix the underlying problem. the bad coil pack. the vehicle was misfiring at cruise but upon acceleration no misfire was apparent. what are the symptoms the truck is displaying
take a look at the EGR valve it could be either vacum controlled or electronic either way what seems to be the problem is that the valve is stuck in the open position until the engine warms up you can gently tap the egr valve with a small hammer or a screw driver and you can see that it runs smooth, now if the egr valve is vacum controlled replace the valve. if it is electronoc controlled replace the valve and the module for the egr valve.
