My 2000 Venture drives quietly for a few hours. Then, after driving on the highway for several hours (> 3 hours), it begins to make a high pitch whine. The frequency of the whine changes with acceleration--the more the accelerator is depressed, the louder and higher pitch of the whine. If I stop for a while (about an hour) and get back in the van, it makes the whine immediately...It takes a couple of days after a long trip for the whining to go away. Then the whining comes back on long trips. Here were some potential problems I saw on other websites: torque converter, air intake/filter, throttle body, tensioner for serpentine belt...Others? Suggestions? Thanks in advance!
Sounds like a dry/failing bearing or power steering pump noise. You first need to try to track down where the noise is originating, and the most likely place is at the front of the engine.
I would start by listening with the hood up while parked with the engine running and the noise present, and seeing if it is coming from there. If so, the most likely cause is something connected to the belt - e.g. AC compressor clutch, tensioner, power steering pump, or generator. Can also be caused by the belt just slipping (warn out belt, tensioner not working properly).

IT COULD ALSO BE A BAD U JOINT IF THE REAR HAD NO LUBE IT WOULD BE JUNK BY NOW

not sure about fault code but the not turning over and drill noise is the starter motor not engaging which will probably require renewing

This Noise Description sounds Indicative of the Sounds that come from the Serpentine Belt Or Related parts such as Belt Idler Pulley or Belt Tentioner witch also has a Pulley, but if Tensioner itself is Literally BROKE I've replaced a number like this it will cause a Whining noise . Best case scenario its just the Belt, and if any of the other Problems turn out to be the Culprit the Belt MUST be Replaced Anyhow as Damage is Being caused By the Very Whining you hear.

The Pulleys usually have a more Hum type Whining. So I would say at Best The BELT , And WORST Belt Tentioner is Broke

More often than not the power steering fluid is low and that is the whine that you hear. Fill up your power steering fluid and see if it goes away. Cost about $5 bucks and will tell you if you need to spend more $$$ on something else.
