I removed the 3 screws but cant get the casing out to access the bulb for replacement? what to do here? Is it just a bad design and I just need to pop it out?
SOURCE: How do I change the back brake light of a Hyundai Elantra?
If it is the light in the rear window, there are two plastic caps on either side on the base of the light. Pop off the cap and remove the screws inside. That should allow you to get to the bulb. I went to autozone for the bulb w/o removing it and they gave me the wrong one. If you have the bulb removed, you're better off, if not, the people at advanced got me the correct one without any issues. If it's the brake lights on the back of the trunk, you access those from inside the trunk. On either side, there are thumbscrews (sometimes under the fabric lining flaps). Once you remove the bulb carrier, you'll know which one is out. It usually lines up with the red cover but if you can borrow someone's time, have them look in your trunk at the bulbs as you test your parking lights to see which one lights and which one doesn't. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: Brake lights won't go off
learned to trouble shoot this in school, it might be that your lights and or switch are backwards, that was usually the case we discovered to be the culprit, and be sure you have the right bulbs and not some random generic compatible with these model cars, those bulbs will not be compatible with the current going thru them, if this does not help, you might want to try to reinstall the original components to back track your work, unfortunetlly electronics on cars is very time consuming as we learned in class.....hope this works or helps you...shia
SOURCE: need to replace dash board backlights - 2004 hyundai elantra
trying to do the same on my 01. ready to change the bulb but can't find it anywhere.
anyhow, here's how you do it:
remove the dash by taking out 2 screws behind the ashtray and 2 above the instrument cluster
begin prying off the dash from the ashtray up, when you reach the heater vents stop. next take a flat head screwdriver and pry off the dash from the left side with the door open. work left to right till you reach the heater vents and it'll come right off. you don't necessarily have to unplug any of the electric connectors if you don't want to, but you;ll have to reach around the dash while working. all you need to do now is remove the heater control unit via the 4 screws around it, then unplug the electric harnesses from the back of it. make sure you remember which goes where. the bulbs are the 3 white (or is it 2 white and 1 grey) circles on the back of the control unit. just turn them with a flathead screwdriver and turn it over and give it a little bump to get 'em to fall out (or grab 'em with a needle nose pliers if necessary). anyhow, that's how it's done, question is, where do ya find the bulbs?
SOURCE: Replacing passenger side mirror and casing
you need to remove the trim pannel parallel to the mirror on the inside of the vehicle, normally triangle shaped, from there there will be 3-4 nuts or bolts you need to remove, once that is done the mirror will be free to be removed.
GOOD LUCK
