  • Check Your Fuses: Few cars have a fuse associated with the starting system, but before you go monkeying around with everything, check your fuses to be sure it's not that simple.
  • Battery Corrosion: Over time your battery connections can become dirty, or corroded. This corrosion breaks the connection your battery has with the rest of the car, and it won't start. Try cleaning your battery posts and try to start the car again.
  • Dead Battery: The most common reason your car won't start is a dead battery. If you have a battery tester that can measure cranking amps, test your battery to see if it's weak. If you can't test it yourself, you can test the battery indirectly by jump-starting the car. If it starts right away, your problem is most likely a dead battery. Replace the battery, and clean the battery connections to ensure good contact.
  • Bad Igntion Switch: If your battery checks out, but the starter is still silent, it may be a faulty ignition switch. Turn the key to the on position (not all the way to start). If the red warning lights on your dash don't light up (and your battery connections are clean), the ignition switch is bad. If they do light up, turn the key to the start position. The dash warning lights should turn off at this key position (most cars). If you're not sure, turn on the headlights. When you try to start the car, the lights should either dim (a lot) or turn off completely. If they do, your ignition switch should be ok. If not, the switch will need replacement.
  • Bad Starter Connection: Corrosion can not only keep your battery from connecting, it can affect any electrical component, especially the ones exposed to the elements like the starter. If you have a helper, you can test the connection by holding a circuit tester lead on the wire that engages the starter. This is the smaller of the two wires connected to the starter. Be sure no part of your body is near the moving parts of the engine - it could still start at any time! Have a friend turn the key and check the current. If you're getting current to the starter but it ain't spinning, it needs replacement.
If your starter spins freely when you turn the key, the problem lies elsewhere. Now you begin to check the other systems that could keep it from firing up.

SOURCE: key stuck in the ignition and wont let me out of gear

The shank of any GM key hits a lever that locks the key in place when turned into any position other than the off position. If it stuch in off, the cylinder must be replaced

SOURCE: 88 cadillac deville, ac blower fan wont shut off,

Ralph,
Most common cause of this is the blower fan (proper name for the fan you refer to) continuing to run is a shorted out Electronic Climate Control Module. This solid state device replaces the older style fan speed resistor block (at about 4 times the price) This unit is found on the top of the HVAC box under the hood. (HVAC means heating, ventilation and air conditioning) The HVAC box is found on the passenger side of the firewall. Look behind the A/C's accumulator. It will have an electrical wiring plug on top of it. It will be fastened to the HVAC box with a few 7mm hex head screws. Very easy to change.
FYI, do yourself a favor and replace the blower fan motor at the same time. The Electronic Climate Control Module usually fails because the motor is drawing to many amps of current. This is because it's bushings are worn out or the brushes are worn out.
This is very common on Cadillacs and Buicks.
Charlie
PS Not sure why car won't start. Either you drained the battery or blew a fuse which controls starting the engine. Need more info regarding the "no start" condition.

SOURCE: cadillac seville won't start

I've got an even cheaper and easier solution, instead of buying a new cylinder, find that plug and snip the orange wires going to the old cylinder. Then remove the resistor chip from the key and solder each of the the wires to each side. this will fool the car into thinking the correct resistor chip is in place, allowing you to use the original key or any copies with or without resistor chips. i just did this to my caddy and it roared to life! :)

2001 s10 will jump start. After it sits, I try to start it, it won't start, but the ignition keeps dinging after I turn it off and take the key out. I can jump start it and the dinging stops.

its sounds like a bad ignition switch-try to jiggle it and see if its stop after you have turned key off- also those dinging sounds are to warn you that you have left something on -usually headlights or maybe even your dome lights which would account for your battery dying

Car won't start without a jump but battery okay

wont crank or wont start.??
no car starts , if it cant crank. (unless push starter (M/T magic)
that is not a trans sensor its the PRN switch.
ill answer for, wont CRANK !
it wont crank even with a good battery (charged) or jump started.
1: bad start
2: bad wires to same.
so hot wire the starter small wire, the key start line is tiny.
cranks. , starter good, no crank starter bad or cables bad.
if it cranks hot wired, then the key line is dead.
easy, huh?

1992 toyota pickup won't start and battery won't charge

Sounds like your battery is just too dead, has enough juice to light up the system for a minute but cranking drains it and if it wont charge then deff fried, you could try removing the battery and starting the car with cables to confirm the starter still works. If a bettery is too dead then when you are jumping it, it takes to much of the power just trying to get through the battery.

Mercedes benz c240 2003 car cannot start ignition

Try checking the key reader it's usually a plastic ring around the key barrel. If it's dies will not read code in key to enable the car to start. Check your key is sending a code as well.

Car won't start keys were left in ignition

Try jumping/boosting the vehicle, all of the above will still work with a weak/low battery but the starting system takes a lot of amperage to turn over the engine. If you only left the keys in the car and no lights on or anything running why would it not start if it was starting correctly before??? Whats happened since the car was last started?
