Had the same problem, what worked for me was changing the crankshaft position. Here are a couple other suggestions, camshaft position sensor, fuel pump, clogged fuel injectors, fuel filter...... Good Luck

Try putting the car in neutral and starting. If its a manual trans it might be the clutch pedal safety switch or it may be something as simple as a loose battery connection.

SOURCE: 2001 jeep grand cherokee won't start.

Your dealership can read the codes entered into your car's computer every time it malfunctions. Same problem as yours, however, also gets worse, back up lights won't work, sticks in park (in the gas stationing) (very embarrassing), will only run with foot on gas, etc. It was the "neutral safety switch". $500 fix but runs and starts perfectly all the time.

How can i bypass the crank sensor on a 1990 jeep 6 cly?

Can't bypass it. It's what tells the ecu to fire each plug, exactly when needed.

1998 Jeep Cherokee -- car won't start. Turns over

have scanned to find problem code to get an idea of what it is. .it may either be the crank or cam sensor, check the crank sensor first. if it is bad it sends wrong timing info to pcm. therefore jeep will not start!! It is either the camshaft or crankshaft positioner. I would check the crank pos. first. Zach Cabot, AR

Replaced starter still wont start soliniod good 90

if the motor turn over but will not start try looking at the cps(crank position sensor)it would create a no spark condition. its located at the back of the engine right at the bell housing for the transmission.you can test it with an ohms meter or just replace it.

1990 Cherokee starts but cranks for awhile

Try this: turn key on for 5 seconds, but dont start. turn it off and turn it on again for 5 seconds then try to start it. If it starts up better, you need to test the fuel pressure.
hook up a test gauge to the test port on the fuel rail, try to start and watch fuel pressure, after it builds.to its max turn engine off, it should then hold pressure for a few or more minutes. if it doesnt there are three things that can let it bleed down.

There is a check valve built into the fuel pump that could be stuck open,
An injector could be leaking,
Or the pressure regulator could be leaking.
If it still has problem check your spark plugs to see if they are worn out with too much gap.

I have a 1990 Jeep Cherokee Starts then shuts off

Sounds like insufficient fuel delivery. Likely problem is the fuel filter is plugged.

Cranks but wont start

You need to check and see if the plugs are getting voltage/spark. If they are not then check and see that the coil is getting voltage. It sounds like you possibly have a bad coil. Something is causing your plugs to not fire.
