No, but I will. Thank You for the siggestions. I wondered if it was the clutch or something that had just come loose

BTW...how much does it usually cost to get this replaced? an average?

Depends on what part of the country you live in and how mechanical you are. The clutch itself should be under a $100 - and depending on where the compressor is mounted on the engine - most home-owners can manage to change it.

Phoenix. No sure if I have the correct tools to be playing mechanic. Is there a video online showing how to do it? Thank you again

Phoenix - been there - like it. That area has competent people that are good around ac. The job should be under $200 - parts and labor. Shop around a little - it will be worth it ! And USE an established shop - not a backyard mechanic.

Yes sir! No backyard mechanics. I have done the dealership thing for years, but have found a few reputable smaller shops that do great work for less. when a/c was ck'd last, they said it was Ok but low on "coolant" and filter under dash needed cleaning. Blows lots of cool air. could resolving coolant/filter issue have created pressure problems and potential clutch and other parts/pieces needing replacement in future?

Possible - but not likely. Fix the ac clutch - if that is the rattle and drive it. With 166,000 miles and if you took care of it - you will get at least another 50,000 out of it. And maybe even more. Toyota's

Sounds like you need a fuel pump. The first indication of a fuel pump issue is a hum or drone noise.

SOURCE: Clicking noise on acceleration

I know how to fix you're problem.... Get some Fosgate 12'inch sub woofers With a 2 channle amp and some Boston speakers with a 4 channle amp ,. :) You Will NEVER hear the sound again.... . :)

I don't think it's a normal sound at all but, ........................... I can't really tell you, seeming i didn't build the car lol , Does it make the sound after the car is off?

And if it is normal..... Then you should go get a Corolla lol

Did you ask them why it makes the sound it does? And what did they say? I seem to find most people that work at the dealers are morons. And all they do is well... we can check it out for you 200$.. lol Then tell you we couldn't find it, :<

Best of Luck

SOURCE: 04 Corolla "BRAKE" light on dash--comes on occasionally??

I wouldn't drive it... when your brake light comes on, it means there's a serious fault with your brakes. They may not engage when you brake and there won't be any further warning other than the brake light

A rattling noise has suddenly appeared

Hi Graham,
I think you should look at the heat shields often attached to the exhaust, sometimes when at idle they can vibrate and rattle and make a hell of a racket. Have your mechanic take a look at these it shouldn't cost very much if that is the problem

The rattle is likely a loose shield or a bad catalytic converter. As for the loud banging, Have you checked the front U-joints behind the brake rotors. As for the Reverse noise? Auto or stick shift?

Rattling noise during start up. I turn the key and there is a loud rattle noise when the car first fires up. When the car fires up it sounds like I have my foot on the accelerator as it revs up at first...

check your starter and see if it is loose, this will cause it (starter) to use more amperage to start which leaves less amperage for the rest of the electrical system (maybe the long start problem too), hope this helps, let me know
