SOURCE: 1999 Ford Windstar 3.8 no heat

If you have a knock or clicking noise behind the radio, it is the blend motor. The blend door is spring loaded and the gears in the blend motor are "stripped". The door is spring loaded so that the door is closed to the heater core. About 2 hours to replace and a lot of bending and stretching. You don't have to remove the dash, but all of the trim, radio, and controls will need to come out.

SOURCE: Diagnostic Codes p0171 bank 1, and p0174 bank 2 (too lean)

Those codes are for the oxygen sensors, lean fuel mixture on both banks. Change them, problem with stalling and rough idle should go away.

SOURCE: 98 Expedition coolant leak top back of engin

Sorry im late with this,i couldnt seem to log on....The answer to your question is YES,there is a steel line under the intake with a short piece of rubber line attached to it and you can just about see it from the front of the intake with a light,it can leak and cause coolant to run off the back of the engine,The intake gasket set alone is about $40.00 and i dont know about the rubber line,i have seen it physically but havent changed one yet.Note the date of manufactor just incase,i bought an intake set for a 99 and the engine design was changed half way through...its not too hard to pull off the intake and re-install,you will need a 7mm socket for the coil packs,8mm socket for the fuel rail bolts and lower intake bolts and power steering bracket bolts and throttle bracket bolts,10mm socket for the intake bolts and alternator bolts and egr valve, and a large cresant wrench for the exhaust tube thats connected to the egr valve, flat screw driver for the air cleaner...and plenty of extensions with a swivel to be able to get to the back bolts of the intake....just incase you do it yourself this info could make it easier to gather tools. Its about a 3 1\2 to 4 hour job start to finish for the first time doing it,includes cleaning everything..Good luck

I see white smoke coming from my vents when the ac is not running.

You are leaking freon, the system is under pressure even when you think it is off. The leak mostly likely is coming from the ac evaporator. But to be sure you need to put dye in the system and check for the dye leak with a black light. Hope this helps.

White smoke coming out of vents

i don't think it's a good idea to inhale that white smoke, whatever fluid inside the A/C is poisonous, get your AC fixed immediately. From what I can gather the evaporator inside your compartment leaks fluid and the heater core and fan blows it up your nose. I could be wrong but if that white smoke is the same as what comes out of the receiver dryer then it is quite dangerous.

If your not overheating or losing coolant, its more than likely engine oil burning. If it is coolant related, possible blown head gasket.

White smoke is coolant leaking through the engine gaskets most likely. The turbo would leak oil which would be black. If the turbo has intercool to it then it can be coolant as well

Little plume of white smoke coming from engine when idling only. Runs great and not overheating. Really bad smell coming through vents with AC on

A little white smoke is OK from 0-15 minutes of start up.

After warm up the condensation inside the exhaust pipe AND under the hood should be purged.

How many mile is on the engine?

A well care for engine should not have to worry about leaky (pin hole leak) head gasket until 120,000 miles.

The other sources of coolant leak is the freeze plugs.

DO NOT WAIT! Take 15-20 minutes out of your schedule and see where is it leaking on the idle.

it can be at

heater hoses
water pump
freeze plugs
and head gasket

I would start monitoring the coolant consumption by making the coolant reservoir tank.

Keep tab on oil level.

====

The common A/C air vent odor are

coolant leak (even pin hole leak) on the heater core.

KEEP CHECKING the center to passenger floor carpet for wetness and smell of coolant.

and/or

mold in side the air tube vent.
there is cleaner spray you can buy to keep the mold.
