What would cause a 2000 VW GTI VR6 not to hold idle?

Replaced the oil pan in my 2000 VW GTI VR6. Now when I start the car, it fires right up but won't idle. I can hold it at 2k RPM, but then it will die as soon as I let off the gas. Ran fine before. Any ideas? Thanks

SOURCE: My car idles at 2k rpm as soon as the check engine light goes off

Most likely airflow meter giving trouble. Remove it and try cleaning it you will get spray for this in an auto factor's or an electrical repair shop. Cleaning may not fix it as it may just be worn out and will need to be replaced. A genuine V.W. one is expencive but enquire at your auto factors they will be able to get you one at about half the price. Hope this helps. Cheers

SOURCE: how do i change the oil on my 01 vw gti vr6

This engine requires synthetic oil, 5 quarts, and oil filter. Remove dip stick, remove oil drain plug at bottom of engine oil pan, remove filter housing, remove oilf filter and o-ring. Replace o-ring and filter, rub o-ring with some new oil, replace filter housing, replace oil drain plug, pour new oil in at top of engine oil cap, replace dip stick, start engine, run for 45 seconds, turn off, check dip stick to make sure oil is at correct level. You are done, recycle old oil.

SOURCE: my car is vw golf 1995 model cabrio with a vr6 2.8

Could be a mass airflow sensor (MAF) or throttle position sensor. my guess would be the MAF, it went on my car and did the same thing.

96 vw golf gti vr6 just replaced water pump everything was fine until today when it was idling heard a pop then steam started coming from defrost vents antifreeze on passenger side floor

More than likely heater core leak, I assume you are losing coolant. I've changed a couple heater core in my life but nothing like changing the one in the video. I saw 3 videos, and all said you have to pull the dash.

Why would a 00 VW GTI not idle?

If the battery was disconnected during oil pan replacement then a idle relearn will be needed. drive car for awhile without using accessories (a/c) then return to idle shut car off 10 min then try again. If motor was lifted to remove oil pan check for broken vacuum hoses a large leak can keep engine from idling.

I have a 2000 VW GTI VR6.I'm trying to connect a performince chip

do not cut into these wires. any real performance programmer will not require you to do this. these ones that tell you to cut into the IAT will ruin a $700 mass air flow meter, and do not do anything. all they do is try to trick the computer into thinking it is colder then it actually is, and to richen the fuel mixture, which will actually HURT performance and emissions because the air density does not match what the temp sensor is reading. the temp sensor is there for a reason!
