One of the air intake pipes had come loose. Fastened the jubilee clip back up and it was like having a new car!

SOURCE: my 2000 ford focus hesitates and as lack in power

It's possible it's your fuel pump getting ready to fail. There was a recall a number of years back on the fuel pump, which your local Ford dealer should replace for free.

SOURCE: ford focus lpg.

Check coil for cracks and weak spark on one side. Check pcv hose that connects to the intake manifold as they will collapse and leak. It will turn the light on. Check while running.

If its just the speedo failing and the rev counter works ok, its likely to be the speed sensor which is on the gearbox. This will have to be removed as soon as possible to avoid engine damage! Expect to pay about £30-40 not £128 like some have paid from a Ford dealer.

The speed sensor as well as talking to the speedo to say how fast youre doing also talks to the fuel pump and adjusts the amount of fuel to send to the engine according to the speed your doing. So, if it thinks youre doing 0mph, it will supply a minimum amount of fuel and is likely to stall when slowing down. You might notice a lack of power whilst the speedo is failing as its starving the engine of fuel, causing it to run a lean mixture, which also burns hotter and could overheat and damage the engine.
