do the pin point tests, these start witjh running a trouble code test, autozone and kragen will do this for free, if u haven't had the trans apart then cross out any crossed wiring issues, but I do think you will find a problem with the 2-3 shift solenoid, either the solenoid has failed or the connector has a problem on the outside of the trans.

SOURCE: I have a 2004 chevy venture, and transmission

get it into the shop (transmission shop - not the dealer) ASAP!   We just had one of the clutches go in ours - it burnt through the tranny fluid in less then a month.  This with 125k (kilometres) on the odometer...

SOURCE: my 97 chevy blazer won't shift past 3rd gear

Drop the pan, odds are the shift solenoid is out, its located at the front of the trans on the driver side. I'm sure your check engine light is on that will comment about the timing/shift solenoid being bad. I had the same problem with mine. The solenoid had plastic coming out of the inside. To remove it you'll find a small C clip holding it in, just take a small screw driver and pull the clip out. The part cost me like $36 from my local dealership. And its a longer solenoid. I believe its the 3-2 downshift solenoid. I do have the part number if you need it.

Testimonial: "Thank you so much. I actually thought this was the problem, but i didn't know. Thanks again!! send me the part number"

SOURCE: 97 venture 4 speed electronic transmission not shifting into 4th

4th clutch hub splines are stripped off. GM didn't harden the splines until 2004 or so so the early model gradually wear to the point where they are so thin they strip off - and then, no 4th gear

You might have burned out the transmission plates, try getting the transmission out of the car and inspect the plates inside.

Transmission 97 intrepid

This is a simple sensor problem. I just had it and the sensor won't allow (to prevent engine damge) the vehicle to shift out of second gear. This is incorporated into the design to allow you to drive the vehicle to get repaired. The dealer will put it on a diagnostic checker, replace your sensor and off you go. Less than one hour.

Chevy venture 2004 Transmission

Bring to tranny shop or repair shop, have it scanned for trouble codes, many electrical parts and solonoids in those trannys, possible it may just be a shift solonoid bad or needs adjustment, much cheaper than replacing tranny. good luck!
