The battery light should not be called the battery light. It should be called the charging system light because that's what it does - it checks for a problem in the car's charging system. A loose or slipping belt can cause the light to go on. But, so can a bad alternator.

Be sure to get a free charging system check at your local auto parts...ie Auto Zone etc...You still have a problem...the belt may be worn or slipping, or the alternator may be underproducing. Please don't get stranded...follow this warning...

Sorry I missed the part that your light stays on even after turning your car off? Double check your connections at the battery posts...positive, and negative...And be sure to get the free charging system check...the starter could have a short causing the light to stay on when car is off. Also this means your battery is dis-charging when off, that could lead to a weak battery again. Was this happening before the battery change?

It could be an alternator problem or possibly a regulator problem, Or even may even be a fuse, I would try to check fuses first have a auto parts store check to see if your alternator is charging properly. I use Advance, Or you may use Auto Zone, Most part store may have this equipment.

I have a 1983 oldsmobile 98 and the dashboard lights wont turn off how can I turn them off so my battery wont die

Is it the illumination lights? If so, that sounds like a bad headlight switch-when you put the park lights on (first click), it turns on the dash illumination lights.
If it is warning lights or other lights on the dash, it could be a bad ignition switch.

My 1993 Jaguar XJ6 wont turn over..the lights on the dashboard wont come on but the radio works and all the lights in the car..someone help please.

I recommend you have your battery tested. The starter requires MUCH more power than the radio does. You could also see if the car starts with a jump start. Also, as a general rule, a battery is only good for 3-4 years so if it is older than that it wants to be replaced anyhow : )

Good luck!!!

We have a '94 XJ6, I get nothing from a run>>>start.

there are 2 connections on the bulkhead/firewall. There is one on
each side. The connectors are brass and the insulators are
plastic with a rubber boot. unless these connections are clean you may get all sorts of malfunctions with switches, lights and electric
motors. Symptoms are similar to a failing battery, something to start with..

good luck

I have a 1983 Jag XJ6. When operating, the

that is exactly what happened the alternator went bad causing overload in the battery, replacing it with a rebuilt will be fine,as long as the replacement puts out the same amps. it will most likely have a warranty of some kind so i would not replace it until car is back on the road . you don't want warranty expiring while car is parked.

I have a 1983 jaguar xj6 thats having problems sometimes when i go 2 start it the instument panel lights /battery light ,seatbelt light, etc / wont light up on the dash and the car will turn over but not...

Sounds like you have a loose ground wire usually found at the the battery post, the distributor, coil or altenator. When a ground wire is loose it will sometimes start the car and let you drive until you go over a bump or make a turn or when you hit your brakes hard especially when parking and then it disconnects and the car will cut off and not start up when you return. Also make sure battery posts are clean and tight.
