I THINK THE CAMSHAFT SPROKECTS WORKS AT INTAKE, AND EXHAUST CHECK "I" IS FOR INTAKE AND "E" IS FOR EXHAUST, AND CONFIRM THE POSITION OF THE VALVES - EXHAUST CAMSHAFT IS CLOSE TO THE WALL, AND INTAKE CAMSHAFT IS CLOSE TO RADIATOR. IF YOU DONT SEE MARKS, THE ONE THAT GOES AT EXHAUST GEARS COVERED. AND INTAKE OPPOSITE.

How can I reset the timing on a Tata Vista 1.4i 16 v. The camshaft and crankshaft have no markings . Further more the camshaft pulley is a vvt gear. Can you assist please

The timing marks are on the gears, and the gears will only go on in one position. Set them where the need to be when you put the gears on.

How to set the timing on a 1997 gmc 5.7

I would have the ignition gears inspected, gears can wear out and cause this. If bad gears are found I would then inspect the camshaft for worn gears as well since the camshaft spins the ignition.

6-300 timing gear mark alignment

  1. Drain the cooling system and remove the front cover.

CAUTION When draining the coolant, keep in mind that cats and dogs are attracted by the ethylene glycol antifreeze, and are quite likely to drink any that is left in an uncovered container or in puddles on the ground. This will prove fatal in sufficient quantity. Always drain the coolant into a sealable container. Coolant should be reused unless it is contaminated or several years old.

  1. Crank the engine until the timing marks on the camshaft and crankshaft gears are aligned.
  2. Use a gear puller to removal both of the timing gears.
  3. Before installing the timing gears, be sure that the key and spacer are properly installed. Align the gear key way with the key and install the gear on the camshaft. Be sure that the timing marks line up on the camshaft and the crankshaft gears and install the crankshaft gear.
  4. Install the front cover, and assemble the rest of the engine in the reverse order of disassembly. Fill the cooling system.

1995 mercury villager timming belt instalation, when I removed the old belt , I dont check the aligment points & I switch on the engine & I miss the camshaft & sproket points; what can I do to...

In my opinion you need to re-do the belt and line up the points, Does the vehicle run? If not don't try to turn it over to much, could possibly cause a bent pushrod, take the belt back off and align the points

1987 Buick Century 1.5 liter

You have to remove the engine covor. Then you have to remove the lifters off the camshaft. You then have to remove the Timing belt. The top gear on the timing belt has to be removed as well. then you pull the Seal out of the Camshaft. Then the Camshaft should come out. You put your new Camshaft in, then put the new seal on the camshaft. Then you put the gear back on. There is a hash mark inside of the gear, that needs to be top center. You then need to take the first spark plug out and put a screw driver in there. you then need to turn the bottom gear (where the timing belt goes) clockwise until you can feel the first cylinder come all the way up(you feel this with the screw driver). then you put the Timing Belt back on without moving any of the gears at all. The lifters have to be torqued on. They just cannot be put back on. There is a torque specification for those lifters, every vehicle is different. When you get those lifters back on, you put the lid to the engine back on. Then you are done. I hope this was helpful.

Have a 1997 Dodge Neon

Wait, I am confused by the camshaft. You have two camshaft gears which are lining up with each other? Can you please expand on this. The engine should have two dots above each cam gear (not directly above) and the gear tooth line should line up in between both dots. Two dots for each gear. Lining these up and getting the tensioner back in can take several tries. Please clarify again the camshaft markings and possibly take a picture for me with the markings.
