I have a 2009 focus in my shop. Two times it has lost all hydralics to the clutch. Happens in cold weather. Owner states that they have not added any fluid, and there are no apparent leaks. When the problem occurs it is like you have blown a slave cylinder, but with acouple of rapid pumps on the clutch pedal and everything goes back to normal. Don,t want to pull tranny until I,m sure of a diagnostic. Help?

Yes, it sounds like the slave cylinder cups. When cold they shrink & won't hold the pressure. Once you move them a couple of times they soften & expand holing the pressure, only to shrink again to not hold the pressure.

SOURCE: i have A 1998 FORD RANGER EXT. CAB W/ 6 CYL.- 4.0

Take the top off the master cyl and slowly very slow push in on the clutch and watch for any bubbles comming up.Replace the top and pump pressure and bleed at the master direct by using the lines for bleeders.

SOURCE: clutch will not engage.

You have to bleed the system again they can be a pain in the b@TT, also get a second person to operate the clutch and watch to see if the lever moves, if it does pull off the rubber and make sure you have the Y on the pivot ball inside the transmission. And if you don't get enough throw adjust the clutch rod on the clutch pedal by removing the pin and loosen the lock nut and make it longer by unscrewing the shaft. You want a half inch of free play at the top of the pedal the you want the clutch to catch about 3/4 of the way down. Also if you try to put it in gear does it grind the gears? Also did you put the clutch plate in backwards this is a common mistake even for a pro who gets interrupted by a phone call or a good-looking gal walking by, if ya need more suggestions let me know by posting to this comment.

A red light appears in the odometer area and beeps and goes out, the tire pressure system is illuminated, but can't get an answer for this light?

TPMS, the glove box users guide tells you what it means./
it means tire pressure are wrong, or the sensor dead. as they love to to and we love to ignore them.
tire pressure can not be reset, it must be added , we go to the gas station get to the tire pumps and inflate the tires, to drivers door jam stated spec or the glove box guide.
or scan the PCM to see if TPMS sensors are dead.
never seen a car go 13 year and not one sensor battery dead.me.

Why does the air conditioning switch it self on, even in the cold weather with the heating full on?

The A/C Compressor will kick on anytime you have the car on defrost This is normal and it keeps the A/C system from drying up during cold weather.

When cold it shifts fine, but when the weather is hot and when running the air conditioning it is very difficult to get it into 1st gear. I have changed the master and slave cylinders, and even had the...

could be a little vapor lock in the hydralics. get new fluid **** out old stuff with turkey baster then refill with new stuff.open bleed screw at trans and let half of the fluid just drain out untill clear as the new stuff keep it filled while doig this so no air will get in. moisture in brake fluid greatly lowers boil point making vapor lock more common

01 focus zx3 overheating and clutch problems

I'm not sure but I believe the clutch pedal has a cable adjustment . usually its two nuts one on top of the other, hold one and turn the other until desire pedal is achieved.
However ,if its a hydralic clutch I'll let the shop manual give you the bad news. Your gonna need the Shop Manual any way because it will tell you how to adjust "pedal free play" which is what your describing.

First check that both fans WORK.How? Fabricate two jumper wires and remove the connectors from the fan(s)
one at a time and jump them from the battery one at a time. If they work ok if not replace the one that doesn't work.
Next find the coolant temperature sensor check it for resistance , wiring ,and to see if its signal is making it to the ECU. Then check if the ECU is telling the relays to turn on the appropriate fan. Remember one fan is for engine cooling the other is for the condenser of the a/c system. If you turn on a/c it should work.
Use shop manual for more detail testing and specs. I'll help you any way I can. Good luck

How long before a transmission is hot enough to slip

It should not be a matter of how hot, but when. If it only happens when the car is hot then I would check the level. While checking the level, I would see if there is any blackish stuff in the fluid. If there is then I would have your tranny rebuilt because the clutch material is breaking down and could be the cause of the slipage.

2001 ford focus needs new engine..how much would it cost??????

It is according to where you get it worked on, weather you would want a rebuilt, new or used engine and weather your "core" (bad engine) is acceptable if needed. Most garages have shop rates from $25 to $50 per hour. I can give you a rough estimate for that type of average shop bills for similar repairs. I would say a good used eng. should run $700 to $1000 (check the junk yards near you). The garages should take probably between 12 and 18 hours to do the work (I haven't checked the book time on that model). IThey will surely need most all fluids, misc seals and gaskets. Adding $150 to $200. I would expect a shop bill of around $800 to mabe $1000 in addition to the cost of the engine.
