Master Power Switch started smoking after getting soaked by rain while door was opened to get inside jeep.

unfortinately the fuse box is under the hood and there is no panel inside the 2000 cherokee or diagram, i had to buy an online manual to find out what fuse went where for my jeep but its not with me. You can just pull the fuses out one at a time and look at them - I know its a pain. It might be your window controll switch - mine is bad as well. It is a common problem for these cherokees especially over 100k, they wear out - I initally thought it was my fuse as well because the lights in the window switch didn't light up anymore - but it is my switch.

Hello. I can assist you. Most likely, your door latch is broken and will need to be replaced. Historically these were metal and rusted due to exposure, soooooo now they are plastic and after a few hundred uses, they break. You can purchase the tailgate handle and replace it yourself but my recommendation is to let the shop do it as it can be a little tricky and often the linkage rods also need to be cleaned and lubricated. If you have tested fuses and bulbs with test light,and they check out,
the next step is to put you jeep in reverse with the key on,and use your test light to probe the wires before they enter the bulb sockets for power,if you have power replace sockets,if not check to make sure wires are still connected to back up light switch on trans,if you find no problem there,replace the switch
