The thermostat is in a housing in the lower radiator hose near the bottom of the car/engine.

I just started trying to solve this problem on my sisters 2005 Dodge Stratus with 2.7L V6 and....what a pain in the @$$. Designers at Dodge should get out on shop some time and understand what kind of chaos they created in placement of Thermostat at end of lower radiator hose on lower engine block. What should be a 10-15 minute job, is taking over a couple of hours. First you have to remove rt wheel, all plastic covers, just to release Belt Tensioner for Serpentine Belt (that's another issue), then you have to remove the Alternator from top of engine, which isn't easy either. You can't see/get to lower bolt below alternator unless you have small flexible wrist and correct tools.. Nothing in this Engine compartment is Backyard mechanic Friendly. Most shops probably charge 2-3 hours for this bad design. As an Electrical Eng/Designer, these Dodge engrs should be forced to perform R&R on their design, before going in to mass production. I'm in market for new Dodge Ram to replace my 1995, but if the new one's are designed like this, I would look to buy a Chevy or Ford!!

Follow the upper radiator hose to the engine, the thermostat is located underneath the housing that the hose leads to

The thermostat is located at the upper radiator hose end of the engine. The hose will connect to a housing that will have to be removed in order to change the thermostat.
While you have the thermostat housing removed, make sure you flush the old coolant out and replace with new.

Follow your top radiator hose from the radiator to the engine. The part that the hose clamps on to on the engine side is the housing for the thermostat. You should have to remove two or three bolts to remove the housing.

If it's a chrysler engine the thermostat is located just below radiator cap. If mitsubishi diamond star engine it's located on the cylinder head , beside the air cleaner housing
