Master/Slave cylinder issues, check fluid levels of brake fluid reservoir and bleed system where it attaches to the transmission.
Have someone push on the clutch pedal as you watch for movement of the clutch fork where the Slave cylinder attaches to the transmission. If the Fork moves then it is either bent or slipped off the throw-out bearing, the throw-out bearing is seized maybe, the clutch disk itself could be worn or the syncro-mesh teeth inside the transmission are worn from missing gears while shifting.

I thought this guy said the geatbox was automatic which could be manually shifted?

  • Harwoods Rd Garage Apr 23, 2014

I would have thought that the person who removed and refitted the gearbox would have checked simple things like release bearing, hydraulic slave operating/ leakage.

If it is a manual box i wonder if the guy has put the friction plate in the wrong way round....def no clutch then. I do agree that the clutch operating fork could be bent though..especially with hydraulic systems.

2001 buick century runs fine when in park and nutral i can put it in drive and sometime i can go 10k sometimes only get 1k the it starts spudering and wont rev up but will idle fine put it in nutral and...

I think you have an engine speed sensor fault. its not reading the engine speed or the motion speed. needs these two to change speed and ( gear). one is connected to the abs unit and the other is on the engine. usually if they both go its down to the gear box ecu. you can check if you have it on a ecu reader. will have fault codes or not be read at all.

99 chev 1500 won't shift out of park when started, works fine when started in nutral

Is there any shift lock button near gear lever if yes than push it and give it a a try if no than I think you have you flush the gear oil and replace the gear filter too.

97 cherokee slips into nutral while driving

First place I'd go with this is check fluid level in transmission. If full, pull transmission pan and change fluid & filter. If there is an excessive amount of fine metal in pan, or excessive amount of non magnetic debris, it is likely that internal components in unit have worn out. At this point, sometimes changing fluid MAY prolong useful trans life, but generally there is no cure for wear, other than a rebuild. There are some chemical additives out there that will restore some seal integrity...I've had good luck with Lucas products. But, as I said, once it's worn it's worn!!!
