I have a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee and suddenly all of the lights, including the headlights, dashboard & everything went off. After a few seconds they came back on & went off and on whenever it felt like it, not constantly. Thanks in advance for your advice.

This seems to be the affects of a bad dinamo charging your battery . If you take a appart the dinamo you should fine a part called in mechanic terms "the bones" they look like 2 black magnets with a wire coming out of them . They are not expencive and you should not change your dinamo untill you try this first a car dinamo is very expencive .

SOURCE: How to replace headlights on 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

One long bolt at the top - requires a 7mm socket to remove the bolt. The light housing will pry out with a screw driver. There are three ball and socket type connectors that hold the housing in and I just pryed off the plastic housing carefully and "balls" pop out of the sockets. Finally, I was replacing the faded plastic housing and it came with a new wiring harness. It's impossible to reach the connector to use the new wiring harness that comes with the new plastic light housing. So just use the existing wiring harness with the new light assembly.

SOURCE: Jeep Headlights not working. High beam works

had the same problem on my 92....check under the hood on the drivers side, towards the front, there is a "junction box" with all of the lighting wires connecting from the switches to the lights. My wires were all corroded inside,so I cleaned the ends and bought a new box from the local electronic supply store. The problem has not come back.

Light

well that alone would help narrow it down...there are only a few things that power all that at the same time. it would be harder if only one went out at a time. the fact that it comes of and on would tell me that there is simply a bad connection some where. I would start with the relays and check power going in to the fuse box and it leaving. try to turn everything just to see if they are tight.like they sould be.

My jeep grand cherokee 96 v8 will start just for a few seconds and shut down and the headlights flash on and off after it die

I would call a dealer because usually when there's flashing lights involved it's a code. If it runs for a few seconds then dies it could be a plugged fuel pump or plugged line. The pump is able to pull enough fuel to let it run for a short time but then runs out. Hope it helps.

Speedometer and Tachometer not working- no check engine light .

Had this problem on my Town & Country Van. I found online to remove the IOD fuse for a few seconds to reset the system. It worked for me. Guages & lights went crazy when I turned it on, but everything went to working properly.

Replace Entire Headlight on 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Open up hood. Look at headlight. There should be two screws on top and two in front that hold support bracket on. You can turn and pull out bulb & socket

Instrument Panel goes on and off, as do headlights

You have to remove the panel to check onthe connections behind it, also check the headlights switch, they tend to burn out.
