Suspect you have fitted the ignition switch back incorrectly and now the starter has been left switched in whilst engine was running.advise that you disconnect the battery and contact a qualified engineer.good luck

SOURCE: A4 steering lock does not engage and car won't turn over

The steering locks don't necessarily engage when the key is removed, I always turn the wheel before exiting to engage it. There are several positions that will allow the pin to lock in but if between these, it may seem that it isn't locked.

This car has a chip key, you can't just put any old key in it it must be programmed to not turn on the security system and disable starting, which is what you have now, the system has locked you out.

The malibu runs great still could it be the tumblers in the ignition switch have messed up

the tumblers in the ignition switch just allow you to turn the switch when the right key is used
they represent a combination that has to correspond to the cut of a key to allow the barrel to turn and so operate the switch
they have no connection to any thing except the barrel

First of all it sounds like your ign lock is sticking, when you take the key out of the lock turn the steering wheel to get the lock to click on,if that works, get some spray grease, not wd40,and spray into the barrel, thenn work the key in and out. That should also solve the problem resetting your key.

Replace ignition barrel with a snapped metal intrument in it

you can try to remove said instrument with plyers, easiest way for me to fix a car like that is to replace the whole dang steering column. To replace the keyswitch only, check out this video, it applys to your car too! http://www.youtuberepeater.com/watch?v=oFsQhk-QQS8&name=toyota+corolla+ignition+lock+cylinder+and+key+switch+replacement

Ignition switch in Toyota Land cruiser not working

sounds like the inside workings of the barrel are worn out or broken. you will probably need to take the barrel out and replace it . Before you put the new barrel in you may need to take both new and old barrel to a locksmith and get them to change the slides over from the old one to the new one, or you can do it yourself but it is a bit fiddly. If you don't change the slides then the new ignition key won't fit the doors as well as the ignition. hope this helps

My car wont start, 1997 vauxhall astra 1.7 turbo diesel

This sounds like a problem in the fuel shut off circuit. When you turn the key on, it energizes the fuel shut off solenoid on the injection pump. When you turn off the key, power is removed and the pump is moved by spring to the fuel off position. Check for power at this terminal when you are having a problem, ( with the key on) If no power then I would check the wiring and connectors from this connection to the Ignition key. I believe it is wired direct. That can be checked at http://www.alldata.com/products/index.jsp

subscribe3 and get a wiring schematic for the car and see if it is wired direct to the ign switch of from a relay, I am sure it is a connection problem if you have no power.

A 1.7 diesel even if turboed, is dead slow in any vehicle let alone a van. Enjoy the fuel economy

good luck

Key's snapped off inside ignition

Hi I would suggest you ring the Automobile association, and see whether one of their mobile mechanics can solve your problem. extracting a car key from the barrel may be more difficult than it appears. He, the mobile man may have done it before and have the right tools for the problem.
