2004 Cavalier-ABS and Trac light warnings

After starting car backing out of driveway then put in drive it pauses just a second and then goes in gear. The as soon as I start to drive, trac and ABS lights come on. Otherwise runs fine, turned over to 60,000 miles a little while ago then started doing this. Can the lights be on just because it needs the 60K service?

No you need to take it and have the codes pulled on it, the abs system will disable the traction control system.Without knowing what the codes are for the abs system it would not be possible to say what the problem is.

Very common problem with GM vehicles. It's usually caused by a bad wheel speed sensor. Get the trouble codes read so you know which wheel is causing the problem. Then do the diagnostic. Getting the trouble code is ALWAYS the first step.

My 2005 chevy cavalier has a service engine, abs, and trac off light on. sometimes the low trac light comes on when in the reverse position, then switches to the 3 lights when put in the drive position....

The ABS and traction off lights usually indicate a bad wheel speed sensor. I can't remember if the service light came on the three times mine went. The most common one to fail is the left front.

Try this cheap fix first.

Remove the left front wheel speed sensor, clean and reinstall it. They are magnetic and some times road debris will block the sensor. If that was the problem the ABS and traction lights will go off when you start the car.

Your second option is to have the shop scan the vehicle trouble codes, usually this costs an hours labor.

Hope this helps

Possibly the clunking noise may be your control arm bushings being bad. As for the check engine light, get the code read and go from there.

Are you using a gel based battery?
Sounds like an overload on the charging system screwing the whole electronics of the car.
If not - get it diagnosed at a dealership.
Sorry.

Low trac light

I had the exact same problem with my 2004 Cavlier. I took it in and the dealer said it was a voltage problem with my speed regulator located in one of my wheel bases. I had it replaced under my extended warenty. I suguesst taking you car to a mechnanic as soon as possible, cause it could be that sensor, or an electrical issue all together. Especially if it is that sensor, since it effects your braking system, traction system, and the overall drivability of the car.
