If you put a 2 element bulb in a single bulb elemet socket you would or could destroy the flasher unit. Especially if it is a electronic flasher try replaceing the flasher but get mechanicl flasher they last longer.

SOURCE: 2004 Prius driver side rear taillight works intermittently

replace the bulb, you can access the bulb when you open the hatch. there is a cover at the back of the tail lights. or go to your local autozone or pepboys. they will replace it for you with no extra charge

Testimonial: "A friend showed me how easy it was to access the bulb by twisting the holder and then removing bulb. YOur response was excellent as well. Thanks! "

Blown fuse. Do you have your owner's handbook? The fuse should be labeled. The location will be inside the car. Look under the dash on the driver's side and you may have to pull fuses to make sure they are good, but it should be only 1 fuse.

what about the courtesy lights fuse? or maybe your blinker switch? you might have a broken wire between the socket and the switch or the ground which would go to the chassis

Rear driver side running light is not working, but the brake and rear turn signal are working. I have replaced bulb and checked the wiring.

check the front light on the same side is working as their is a fuse for either side of the sidelights .failing which i would need a play as this vehicle isnt wired to europeon standard and uses them funny american electrics with a big stop light switch that interferes with the brake light for the indicator so i would need a play to determine the exact cause ,have you checked the bulb holder ??

Theres water getting into both rear light assemblies in my ve eos, which so far have caused the rhs indicator to short - is the only siolution new rear light assemblies?

My old motto is if it can get in then let it out ,drill a couple of holes one either side in the bottom of the light with a 2mm drill bit ,i suspect that the drain in the bottom of the light is blocked as most vehicles have a drain but its impossible to see as its between the plastic mouldings

As for the horn, inspect the fuse and relay and most common it would be a bad ground wire or worst a bad horn due to corrosion. Horn will be located in the drivers side fender.

Boot fills with water after heavy down pour on 2001 s type sport , some times engine miss fires ,,,until i dry boot out then runs fine ,,boot seal looks ok ,how do i stop water entering the boot...

I would suggest that the rubber seals on the boot surround are in fact faulty or the boot lid is very badly aligned. (Has there been an accident repair to the boot area?)

1. Check the seals again - every inch - and check for movement as some of the rubber adhesive which glues the rubbers to the body work may have broken down.

2. You should be able to replicate the problem with your garden hose. Run the hose full bore over the upper section of the boot lid and over the rear window for a few minutes. As soon as the surface water has cleared the exterior body work open the boot and you should be able to detect where the entry point is by inspecting the edges of the boot compartment and the boot lid.

One person I know popped his wife in the boot while he ran water over the boot area to find a troublesome leak point. I would not recommend doing that.

Rear tail / brake lights

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Almost always, your described concern indicates a loose ground particularly on the driver side. What is required is to check the connectors leading to the driver rear side and/or a ground wire. Often, the problem would be the ground terminal is loose or corroded leading to the body of the vehicle. A temporary workaround is to determine which is the ground in the bulb socket (always the body) and wire a jumper wire to any exposed metal part of the rear end.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

Rear lights

Sounds like a water leaking issue. Try taking out the whole light panel, drying it and spraying it with DW 40. worked for me
