Severe Oil leak From Rocker Cover area. New Seal and Rocker cover gaskets fitted. did not fix , is there a seal on the Cam shaft ? which would cause this problem

Yes there is a seal on the cam shaft behind the water pump pully
undo that bolt
you have to undo the cam shaft to get to it .dont drop the lifters
19 nm for the can bearing bolts ..do not overtighten the two rocker cover bolts you can crack the rocker cover or split the cam bearing those bolts tight into
many say not to use silicon but because of the age of the car you need to use the blue silicone on the half moon the rocker gasket and the cam seal ..there are no online repair manuals for the tm-tp magnas ..the rocker covers can warp but rare

The gaskets may not be at fault; the first time the valve cover was removed it was probably damaged by an impatient mechanic.
Most covers are sheet metal and the gaskets have an ugly tendency to get sticky over time making removal very difficult.
An inexperienced or sloppy mechanic can easy damage the edge of the cover causing a permanent distortion that a gasket replacement cannot correct.

I hope you have correctly identified the source of the leak since a warped cylinder head can also cause oil loss but that would be from the junction of the cylinder and block.
That would be much more expensive to correct than replacing a damaged valve cover.

Not common, part is cheap, fix is easy. You will need a few basic hand tools a metal punch awl to remove old seal (like an ice pick) and soft faced hammer to drive the new seal in.

it could also be the oil pan gasket, or the manifold gasket. if it's the manifold gasket, when you remove the manifold to replace it, take the time to clean out the mixing chamber. it'll be filled with gunk and cleaning will improve gas mileage.

don't use 20w50 that is too heavy an oil for that motor. the most i would use is like a 10w40 and that is a last resort. your valves need adjusting or the hydraulic lash adjusters may be gunked up. there is a chemical called auto-rx (search web) that could help you out. just follow the directions for it. the only other oil seals i can think of are oil pan gasket, oil filter gasket, rear main seal, valve cover gasket.

The rocker cover will leak oil..............

1. If the rocker cover has been damaged due to poor mechanical fitment and is no longer perfectly straight; or
2. The rocker cover bolts are not torqued evenly at the correct ft/lbs specification; or
3. If the rocker cover bolts have been excessively torqued in which event the cover will distort and the gasket will be excessively compressed; or
4. The gasket is in poor condition and needs to be renewed; or

5. The gasket fitting is sloppy done in which event you can assume the cover will not have been properly fitted either.

I would be buying a new rocker cover (or a straight used one) before doing the next repair because your original is probably deformed now and will likely never seal properly.

Oil leak at bottom of timming belt cover

what engine.? lots of engines, used. and 21 models of civic, USA.
its usually.
1: valve cover, (yes, most can leak from top down behind the belt.
2: cam seals
3: crank end seal
4: oil pump seals.
6: oil pan ( last choice)

finding oil leaks takes hard work , clean, it find it .
or use the dye kits.

gravity and wind, allows it to go where ever IT wants.
so it must be clean first to find it.. see?
or use the dye kits, it shows a live leak best.

question, at the 60k mile service points. you check lash, settings.
with a new timing belt. and at such point, a new valve cover gasket gets fitted, did you? if yes, its not leaking if not>????
the front edge of the VC gasket, leaks down behind what i call
the VC leak hidder, tin pan. plate. behind the cam cog
is a plate, and the VC leaks down from there to the cam seal
then down front of engine, then past crank seal the, to cover.
seen this on all most all OHC engines...
cause, nobody does the 60k or does it and uses the old gaskets.
id look there first. but id dont have service history.
start high work down due to gravity.....

Oil leak on driveway coming from front of engine

Dear Sir,
Here is the oil leaking Problem Identifying Technique

Engine oil leaks from the valve cover gasket are common.

The intake manifold plenum gasket may leak and cause increased oil consumption/burning and a spark knock during acceleration; the gasket should be replaced.

External oil leaks from valve cover gaskets, intake gaskets (front or rear), and the rear crankshaft (rear main) seal area are common. The rear main seal is an unlikely source. Normally, the bearing cap mating surfaces (as well as the sealing surface between the oil pan and bearing cap) are the source for the leaks.

Engine oil leaks at the distributor can be misdiagnosed as leaks from theintake manifold seal, oil pan gasket, or rear crankshaft (rear main) seal. A revised distributor is available if oil is found inside the distributor.

If the oil filter casing shows signs of distortion from excessive oil pressure, theoil pump should be replaced.

Often misdiagnosed as a leaking oil filter gasket, the oil filter adapter can seep from between the adapter and engine block.

Carbon buildup on the top of the piston is common. As the buildup increases with mileage and over time, symptoms may vary from light ticking, to ticking/hammering, to hammering/knocking noises. Fuel injector cleaner often solves the problem.

severe oil leaks would be front timing cover crankshaft seal and the rear main seal or leak at oil pump at front timing cover oil leaks can come from damaged oil filter seal or damaged oil pressure sending unit.slow oil leaks oil pan gasket the valve cover gasket leaks you will see and smell smoke from under engine compartment which could be a fire hazard.

Is there supposed to be oil in with the spark plugs

No this is not mormal. I am assuming you are saying there is oil on the outside of the spark plug and not on the electrode when you removed it. If you have oil on the outside of the plug your valve cover gasket is leaking. Try tightening the valve cover down ever so slightly. DO NOT over-tighten. If that does not work then the gasket will need to be replaced. Unless it is leaking lots of oil, you may just want to live with it as it is expensive to pay someone to replace the valve cover gaskets.

Do the timing belt cover on a 1996 camry have a seal or gasket that can leak oil, mine seems to be leaking for around that area. If so how to replace the seal/gasket?

The timing cover itself does not seal any oil from leaking. It is just a cover to prevent debris from getting into the timing belt and ruining it.

To find the oil leak you will need to remove the timing cover and inspect the seals behind the cam gear, crank gear, and oil pump drive gear, and the oil pump to block seal. The most common leaks on these are the cam gear.

Oil leak

You have to differentiate whether the oil leak is from the engine or the tranny. After determining where the source, you must isolate the specific area; timing belt area, the middle-between the engine and the tranny. This can be cheaply determine by placing white piece of paper underneath the engine and observe the droppings of oil. Oil leak repair can be costly-especially an oil starved engine, so isolating the source is essential and tear-down might required.
Due to the age of the vehicle, possible sources are the camshaft seal, crankshalf seal, oil pan gasket, crankshaft end seal,distributor o-ring, and valve cover gasket.
In addition, other oil leaks can come the transmission, and power steering pump and rack'n'pinion. Best to raise the vehicle and inspect undercarriage of vehicle.

First have to determine where are you loosing it from.
Possible engine oil leak areas : Valve cover gasket,oil pan gasket, rear main,oil filter. crank or cam shaft seal, oil pump. Pcv valve.
If its transmission oil leaking here are a few areas of interest: shell of transmission( depending where on the shell could be oil pump, or converter., vents, and axle seals.
If your not capable to jack the vehicle up and look for the leak , then take it to a repair shop.

HAVE SMALL OIL LEAK FROM TOP OF ENGINE BLOCK DRIPPING DOWN BY SIDE BLACK VERTICAL COVER TO CAM BELT/ALTERNATOR DRIVE BELT. SOMETIMES DROPS ON EXHAUST AND SMELLS. HAD ROCKER COVER GASKET REPLACED 15 MONTHS...

degrease the engine with off the shelf products

if leak is confirmed from the top of motor

redo rocker cover seal with silicon
see if that slows the leak
cam seals may not have been replaced when you thought they were
