SOURCE: the van starts right up but shuts right back off

you might have a regular key instead of a microchip key. the micro chip key sends the signal to the computer. If you have a regular key it will start and a couple of seconds it will shut off and do it over and over again.

SOURCE: 2004 ford f350diesle hard starting depress throtle nothing there

Dear dsmalley427,
I think it sounds like a fuel injection problem. You get fuel for a while until the injector backs up and then all of a sudden NO FUEL. The engine quits and the pressure drops and flow returns enough for you to restart. If I were you I would get to a good mechanic and check the fuel injectors.
OR--try adding a fuel additive that would clean the injectors.--Signed jwr

Setting valve clearances

360 with hydraulic lifters, the crankshaft wit a ratchet and socket to get each valve closed. When lifter is at bottom turn the valve adjuster out to where you have free movement then turn adjuster till the rocker arm touches the lifter, then turn the adjuster in three quarters of a turn, and that valve is adjusted. No other clearance is required on hydraulic lifters. Do this with each valve in turn as each piston comes to top dead center using the firing order as a guide. When #1 piston is up to top dead center, both valves are closed. Adjust intake and exhaust at this time. Then the next in the firing order. The firing order can be found on the intake as is each cylinder marked with it's number. If it were a Chevy small block, for example only, firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. I would bring # 1 cylinder up to top dead center on compression stroke by removing that spark plug and stick my finger in the hole and crank the engine till I felt my finger being pushed away with compression, then bring that piston up till the timing mark was on the "0" of the timing tab at drivers side of the harmonic balancer on the crank. Adjust both valves on #1 cylinder and then turn the crank until both valves of #8 cylinder were free moving at the rocker. Then to the next in order of fire. I would turn each adjuster out at least one full turn before starting this procedure, then adjust them in order of firing starting with #1. It isn't hard, just takes time to do it right.

Fuel leak center of vehicle

This is on an Econoline van right? If so then to my way of thinking it could be one or two things. Most likely is a leaking fuel line, or your fuel filter is not seated properly, or the fuel filter has developed a leak.
Oh thats three things, if your driving the car just start it in Park and try to locate the leak, if your lucky you may have to push the fuel filter into its connection till it is tight, eliminating the leak. Otherwise you may need to replace some fuel line which you may not want to do, shouldn't be to expensive to ask a mechanic.

Hi, I have a 1986 Chevy Van G20, V8, 5 Liter, 4 barrel carb. I cannot start the van, (all of a sudden it happened). It has a freshly charged battery, new starter, new fuel pump, new fuel filter, and has...

If it is getting spark and fuel check the timing. The timing chain may have jumped.Take out #1 spark plug and tap engine till the compression stroke comes up. To check just hold your finger over the plug hole and the compression will blow it out. Then rock crank by hand and set to top dead center. Take distributer cap off and see if rotor faces #1 cylinder. If you have spark to the plugs and the plugs are good and you have fuel timing or compression is all that is left.

How do I change the axel on a 88 jeep wrangler? the u joints need to be replaced and I need to know where to start

Start by removing the center axle nut. (torqued very tight about 175ft lbs...you need a solid breaker bar with about a five foot pipe added for leverage, or 3/4 impact gun. then remove wheel and caliper and rotor. Remove the hub bearing by taking out the three 12pt bolts on the opposite side of the steering knuckle. Once those bolts are loose use wd40 on the hub parting line and hammer on the bolt heads to push the bearing out.Loosen the bolts each time they need to be backed off till the hub is loose. The axle comes out right through the hole where the bearing was. Make sure you grease the joints well because you cant once it's back together.

Fuel filters is where

It's located about the center of the van and about 2 feet in front of the tank, It has three lines coming out of it. Two going to the rear to the tank and one to the front. Be sure to tell the parts man what body style the van is when you ask for one because the long van ( Grand) uses longer lines. The round thing at the top of the tank itself is NOT a filter, but a vapor separator. There's nothing inside it. You may have to loosen the tank straps some to drop the tank a little to disconnect the lines on top of the tank. Be careful, the lines will have pressure. I always pull the relay in the fuse box under the hood that's marked 'fuel pump' while the van is running and let it run out of gas before changing the filter. Even then you will get some pressure
