I have a 95 Blazer with a 4.3 engine. 160,000 miles and a SES light on. I scanned it with a Snapon Scanner and got the P0401 code. (The scanner only go's back to 96.) I changed the EGR valve and still have the SES light. Any suggestions?

How did you check code's ? OBD2 scan tool ? There are more computers on your vehicle then just the PCM/ECM - engine computer . BCM - body control module , Air bag module , ABS - anti-lock brakes , instrument cluster etc.... Need a factory scan tool or someother professional type scan tool to read these codes. If the check engine (SES) light is on code's are stored in one of these other modules . Your best bet mite be to have a qualified repair shop check it out .(not dealer )
Do you have a code scanner? What code does it give? If you don't have a scanner and the car is drivable take it to an autozone and have them hook it up to the scanner to get the code or you can buy a cheap scanner for $50 if the blazer was not running rough before you may have not pushed a plug wire on completely and now the engine is misfiring on that cylinder. how many miles on blazer? the platinum plugs from should be good for 100K miles.
The OBDII Scanner will turn the ignition key forward but don't start vehicle and turn all lights and radio off and heater off. And plug the scanner in. Then it will run the codes and tell you what code(s) are write them down. Then you will hit the erase button to reset your engine light. If the light goes back on you have a problem it should stay off up to 50 miles if not then have your vehicle checked out usually it could be your O2 sensors or a MAF Sensor "MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR" that is faulty and or your intake tubes are loose allowing too much air flow in to the engine if this happens your car will be running too lean.
Hello tdamm...No...the service engine soon (SES) light on your yukon is not telling you to change the oil. This is a warning light that is illuminated when there is a problem affecting the Emission system and the engines computer management (ECM) has detected it from a fault. It could be something as simple as a loose or defective gas cap. If the SES light is blinking, it's more serious.... The yukon needs to be connected to diagnostic equipment (scanner) for fault diagnosis. You can go to autozone they will hook up an OBD II scanner to your vehicle and explain the codes to you. Good luck...i hope this helps and will fixya up.
ses might stand for service engine soon, did you replace the batterie? or a shop did it for you ? if it was a shop take it back to them and let them know what's happening but if you did it it has to be diagnose with the famous scan tool to se what information the computer has stored, you know like codes
