difficult to answer ,suspect either alternator or battery or both ? would realy need to see car to know the problem .

Sounds like starter isn't disengaging, get that checked pronto, you could be damaging the flywheel (very expensive). Could be any appliance also; a/c compressor, idler pully, alternator, etc. Don't wait.

needs a starter- or cable- if you had to tap on it for it to work its junk-

the smoke is coming from the belt because a part has stopped turning ...you need to check which one it is... it could be the water pump...alternator ..a/c compressor...... power steering pump or the belt tensioner.... and your going to need a new belt

starter needs replaced the noise you here is the teeth on the starter grinding on the flywheel
