Transmission capacity What the capacity and how do you check to see if it full?

It is a must that you use a silicone-based fluid such as Isuzu SCS Automatic Transmission Fluid -- Isuzu part # 2-90531-200-0
Check with dipstick with engine idle to see when it is full

look in your owners manual under fluid capacities. The torque converted holds some too, which you can't drain. Try to get close to full, then slowly add fluid until it comes up to the mark on the dipstick. Don't start the vehicle to check until it is close to full.

Your car takes Dextron III automatic transmission fluid.

• A full transmission fluid change, like as in a flush, requires 9.5 quarts of DEXIII/M transmission fluid.
• If you are going to be dropping the pan at home to swap the filter and gasket you will not loos near full capacity of transmission fluid. For this you may loose 3 quarts (give or take a bit). 4 Quarts on hand would be plenty for this case.
• Don't forget to (with you foot on the brake) run the transmission through the every gear for a few seconds to fill the pockets before you check the level. if you do drop the pan.

according to the chart 11 pts. where 2 pts. = 1 quart, so it's like 5 quarts and a half. But, all capacities are approximate, it says, so check on level ground, warmed up, for full level of transmission fluid.

TO DO A TRANSMISSION FLUID CHANGE YOU NEED HAVE TRANSMISSION FLUID ON HAND YOU NEED TRANSMISSION FILTER AND GASKET.YOU NEED 3/8 WRENCH THE RATCHET TYPE WITH METRIC SOCKETS. YOU NEED JACK TO RAISE VECHICLE SUPPORT VECHICLE ON JACK STANDS.YOU NEED A DRAIN PAN. ONCE YOU GET VECHICLE OFF GROUND.PLACE DRAIN PAN UNDER TRANSMISSION OIL PAN REMOVE OIL PAN DRAIN BOLT.LET FLUID DRAIN OUT IN DRAIN PAN THEN SCREW DRAIN PLUG BACK IN PLACE DONT OVER TIGHTEN.REMOVE OIL PAN AND GASKET. BESURE TO HAVE PAPER TOWEL ON HAND.MAKE SURE TRANSMISSION OIL PAN GASKET SURFACE CLEAN BEFORE INSTALLING NEW PAN GASKET. ONCE TRANSMISSION OIL PAN REMOVED. REMOVE THE OLD TRANSMISSION FILTER INSTALL THE NEW FILTER.THEN WITH NEW GASKET ON OIL PAN IN PLACE.OIL PAN NEED TO BE CLEAN SO THE GASKET ADHESIVE WILL HOLD PAN GASKET IN PLACE WHILE INSTALLING PAN AND GASKET TO TRANSMISSION.INSTALL OIL PAN BOLTS INSTALL THEM CRISS CROSS TORQUE PAN BOLTS TO 7 TO 10 FT LBS. LOOK IN OWNERS MANUAL FOR TRANSMISSION FLUID CAPACITY.BUY 10 QUARTS .TO BE ON SAFE SIDE SO YOU WILL HAVE ENOUGH FLUID ON HAND. IF YOU DONT HAVE NO TRANSMISSION FLUID CAPACITY. ADD 7.5 QUARTS FLUID.WAIT FOR 2 MINUTES.CHECK TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL ON DIP STICK. SHOULD BE ON THE FULL MARK.CRANK VECHICLE UP.LET IDLE FEW MINUTES CHECK TRANSMISSION DIP FLUID LEVEL IF DROPPED ADD LITTLE MORE.WHILE ENGINE IDLING GETTING WARM UP. KEEP EYE ON FLUID LEVEL.WHEN FLUID LEVEL STOP DROPPING. APPLY BRAKES HOLD FOOT ON BRAKES SHIFT THROUGH ALL GEARS TWO TIMES. THEN CHECK FLUID LEVEL SHOULD BE ON FULL MARK.CHECK FOR LEAKS WHILE ENGINE RUNNING.

TRANSMISSION FILL
To avoid overfilling transmission after a fluid change or overhaul, perform the following procedure:

1. Verify that the vehicle is parked on a level surface.
2. Remove the dipstick tube cap.
3. Add following initial quantity of Mopar ATF +4, Automatic Transmission Fluid, to the transmission:

1. If only fluid and filter were changed, add 5.0 L (10.6 pts.) of transmission fluid to transmission.
2. If the transmission was completely overhauled or the torque converter was replaced or drained, add 7.7 L (16.3 pts.) of transmission fluid to transmission.

1. Check the transmission fluid and adjust as required

Most transmissions take about 5 quarts. Check with auto parts store to get correct type.They should be able to tell you how many quarts your car requires. Add about 3 to 4 quarts Depending on size of transmission,start engine check fluid level while engine is running (should let it warm up) Add fluid as needed to fill to full line. Do not overfill!!!
