Road noise from the right rear tire. The tire is new. Could a bad CV be the noise culprit?

  • tzalesky Jun 18, 2009

Yes, the road noise increased with new tire's. I put new Yokohama's all round. The noise is a wah wah wah sound that grows with speed or when cornering towards that side of the car.

So, the noise has a cycle to it. My first thought was the differential needed grease..

Without being there to actually hear the noise its hard to say. Make sure your lug nuts are torqued to 90 ft lbs. This noise just started when you put on a new tire? Yes a CV joint can give you road noise.

If its a wha wha wha noise I would look at the wheel bearings

Diferentals take gear oil. That sound would be from the rear of the car. Good luck

2007 dodge caliber rt slap stick put new tires on 3 months ago driver side front tire is worn cant let off wheel car pulls bad to the right side of the road

The popping could be from a bad CV axle joint, or a bad wheel bearing. Better get checked, sounds very worn. Raise the wheel on a jack and watch for play. Grab wheel at 3 and 9 o'clock, and shake back and forth-watch for play. Wheel bearing? CV joint -is boot still good? Ball joints at bottom of wheel attaching point to the control arm-check this for play, too.

My girlfriend has a 2003 ford explorer. As she is

If this vehicle has an independent rear suspension /rear wheel drive then the click noise most likely will be from a failing cv joint of the axle shaft.

1999 Lexus RX300 left rear wheel has a rumbling noise sounds like cv joint or bearing its all wheel drive.

Spin that wheel by hand as fast as you can. If you can hear the noise coming from right behind the tire it's probably a wheel bearing.

Alot of road noise from front of car, suspect cv or drive train issue , As speed increases noise gets louder. Engine runs smooth, new tires 6mos. ago, alignment good.

MOST LIKELY CAUSE OF THIS IS THE WHEEL BEARING, DEFECTIVE CV JOINTS ONLY MAKE NOISE IN TURNS AND THAT IS A CLICKING NOISE,.

Honda Pilot 111,000 miles. Wheel or tire noise?

it can be any of the above, rotate the tires and see if the noise location seems to change, but the last thing i would suspect is the CV, they just click when turning, the wheel bearing is my choice here, they roar, tires make a diff noise.

Front End Problems

first i would check the tires , are they cupped or chopped on the tread? run your hand over the tread and see if it feels rough and uneven. take the truck to a auto repair shop and have them jack both front and rear axles off the ground, put the truck in 2 wheel drive and run the speedometer to the speed you usually hear the roaring noise, if you don't hear the noise , put the truck in 4 wheel drive, turn off the traction assist if it has one and run it to the speed you would hear the noise. if you hear the roaring noise with tires off the ground, the problem is in the drivetrain, (engine, transmission, transfer case, u-joints, differentials or the front left or right cv halfshafts or u-joints). the older models (97 98) had the front two driveshafts from the differential turning all the time, they engaged in 4 wheel drive from the transfer case and a solenoid on the front differential. depending on the miles you have on this truck, the most likely areas i would look at would be the tires, u-joints/cv joints, and front and rear wheel bearings. thanks and good luck.
