Locate and replace check engine bulb

My check engine bulb is burned out. I replaced the bulbs in the instrument panel. But this did nothing for my check engine light. My owners manual showed the symbol but not where it was located. I need to find it and figure out how to replace it. Thanks

SOURCE: changing instrument panel light bulbs

You have to remove the entire cluster assembly to get to the bulbs, there is no other way, no room for this man's hand at the back.

SOURCE: Need to replace instrument cluster/AC bulbs

Hello, You can obtain a 2004 Ram Factory Service Manual with all of that information available from Promanuals.net. The reason why it may be so important is because right before the removal instructions the service manual has diagnostic instructions to try. There are numerous pages on removing the instrument cluster, and cluster bezel.

(1) Disconnect and isolate the battery negative
cable. (For Airbag)

(2) Remove the cluster bezel from the instrument
panel. (Refer to 23 - BODY/INSTRUMENT PANEL/
CLUSTER BEZEL - REMOVAL).

(3) Remove the four screws that secure the instrument
cluster to the instrument panel structural support
(Fig. 5).

(4) Pull the instrument cluster rearward far
enough to access and disconnect the instrument
panel wire harness connectors for the cluster from
the connector receptacles on the back of the cluster
housing.

(5) Remove the instrument cluster from the instrument
panel.

Replace check engine light bulb

Take out instrument panel completely. Remove all bulbs and hold the panel up to the sun while looking at the back of it. You will see where each warning/info bulb goes.

Replace check engine light bulb

You will have to remove the instrument panel, but not the whole dash. See here, p111. Note you only have to do steps 9, 10, 14 to 16, 19 to 23. When you take out the instrument panel, you will see the light in its socket on the back. It is a wedge type globe, quite easily available.

Check engine bulb

I believe this are the ones on the instrumental panel, you would have to take the instrumental panel out and identify which one is 'burnt' and replace with a new one. I changed mine, bought the bulbs from a honda dealer. Good Luck

Rpm backlight out

You must remove the cluter of gauges and replace the light bulb.
Instructions
    • 1Turn off the engine of the Taurus, and open the hood.
    • 2Remove the negative ("-") battery terminal from the battery in the engine compartment using a socket wrench.
    • 3.
Insert a slotted screwdriver between the covers on the steering wheel column, and pry upwards. Pull off both the upper and the lower covers.
    • 4Position the steering wheel as low as it can go.
    • 5Remove the two screws above the Taurus' instrument panel and the four screws below it using a Phillips screwdriver.
    • 6Insert a slotted screwdriver into the dashboard trim, and pull upwards to pry it off the vehicle. Disengage the eight snap clips from the dashboard trim by hand, and pull it out of the vehicle.
    • 7Uninstall the two securing screws from the instrument panel with a Phillips screwdriver.
    • 8Pull the instrument panel towards you, and reach behind it to disconnect the two wiring plugs. Pull the instrument panel out of the Taurus.
    • 9Replace any burned-out bulbs from the underside of the instrument panel with new bulbs. Pull the old bulb off, and push the new bulb in.
    • 10Reassemble the instrument panel and dashboard trim in the reverse order of removal. Reconnect the battery, and close the hood.

You have to remove the instrument cluster to replace the bulbs [the bulbs go in from the backside] Not to difficult of a job but I would suggest replacing every bulb in the back while you have it out as they are all the same age and it seems that once one burns out the others aren't far behind. I don't know the bulb number but most parts stores or a GM dealer can figure out which ones you will need. The bulbs are held in by small plastic bulb holders that you push gently and turn to remove from the back of the cluster.

How to change check engine bulb

You must remove the instrument panel to replace this bulb. You must first remove the bezel around the instrument panel to gain access to the screws holding the instrument panel in. Once the panel is removed it is just a matter of replacing the bulb in the back of the panel for the check engine lamp.
