I took off that pan hardly any oil came out, I also took out bolt on side of transmission hardly any oil came then got to looking on internet. Now I have a 1/2 in drive Plug I need to remove. Because I guess its the one that needed to be removed to began with cause dipstick still says full with front trans. pan off, the hole on side of trans. is that where I'm suppose to fill the Trans at?? I put some down the dipstick tube and it shows overfilled .. thanks David...

You most likely hit a curb, the pan is cast aluminum and will break like glass if you hit a curb, the pan can be changed without removing the engine, it is very time consuming, but it can be done.

trans filter can only be replaced by taking the trans apart. absolutely not worth it.

it is inset type ,a hex or square that fits a 3/8 ratchet.
if there is a bolt head, that is for the oil

oh boy! good luck with that one! your right, there is NO filler tube (some idiot imagioneers not so bright idea at Ford), the only way to fill that trans. is through the filler/drain plug, it serves BOTH purposes! stupid? yes MOST DEFINATLY agree! you'll need to purchase a kit from the dealer (of all places) along with the use of (oops),
a compressor and a brake bleeder/filler kit in order to fill the case itself. You can atleast fill the torque converter manually before you install a new, or re-install your old one. I highly recommend replacing it as they too are a problem child as well (clattering noises from internal broken parts inside it). Sorry for the sarcastics, but this trans. is 1 of Fords engineers much BIGGER screw ups! Good luck! oh, p.s. make sure you use ALL new Mercon V fluid ( obviously the "new" trans., but the converter as well.

Trans pan is going to be the very lowest part of your transmission. The filter swap is just slightly concerning. Not to be rude, but you might want to have an assistant that is familiar with trans basics to walk you thru the first one if locating the pan was difficult.
If you feel that the filter swap is something you would like to do, start out by getting the filter kit and reviewing the included instructions. If they are not able to give a full and detailed explanation, they sometimes include a number to call. Dont bother. Just come back here and ask!
Automatic transmissions do not come with a drain plug. You will need to loosen all the small bolts around the edge except for one, to keep the entire pan from crashing to the ground and splashing oil everywhere. pull the edge down and into the drain pan goes the trans fluid. The filter is right under the pan. Cant miss it.
It is real important to be as clean as possible. No contaminants in the trans. If you can, pressure wash the area first and stay operating room clean!
Good Luck to ya
