Just replaced calipers and pads on 2002 1500 Silverado LS/HD. Rear brakes make "rubbing" noise when driving; the noise immediately stops when I apply the brake. What's the rub? I've applied lube in all the right places. Could the "re-manufactured" calipers be not so good? I took the tires off, turned the lug nuts to try to determine the source of the noise. No luck. I removed the metal shim in the middle of the caliper, still noise. I'm suspecting a bad caliper re-build but have no idea at this point.

Disc or caliper? Age and miles on brakes? Front brakes do 70% of stopping power. Obviously, disc or drum is rubbing.If disc, probably need to replace caliper.

Have you checked the master brake cylinder reservoir for brake fluid loss?

I don't suspect the master cylinder as you have replaced it... but am more suspect of a leaking brake line or fitting which should have
been discovered when you had the system bled.

The only time I ever had a rear brake problem with a 2500 series Chevrolet was due to seized rear brake caliper guide pins...as your calipers are also new that is not your problem.

If your brake pedal feels spongy and travels to the floor board you have air in the system, a brake fluid leak or a failure in the power steering system, such as a broken hose, broken power steering pump drive belt, or failed pump, would result in a loss of pressure to both the hydro-boost and steering.

if it is brake pads then you probably have a sticking or frozen caliper.

Make sure the mechanic checked the park brake shoes inside the rear rotors, they quite often break away from the lining and get wedged in the rotor, sometimes causing a constant squeal noise. I've also seen the brake pad anti-rattle metal clips become loose and wander in the caliper bracket, they lightly rub against the rotor and cause a squealing noise similar to worn brake pads. They are also very bad for the backing plates rusting out prematurely and rubbing on the inside of the rotor. Other than that he can just try to champher the edges of both front and rear pads to help dissipate the brake dust, from collecting and causing squeak noises.

If you have 4 wheel disc brakes your Emergency brakes could be rubbing. Or when you use your brakes, the brakepads could be bad.

The Emergency brakes require removing the rear rotors to inspect the E brakes. The wheel bearings usually make a noise whether you use the brakes or not. If you want to replace the rear brakes you need to remove the wheel, then the Caliper, and then the Rotor.

Since there are 2 sets of brakes in the rear, it is much easier to do the front brakes having 1 set. You can price out the job at Brake shops beforehand.

A lot of what the shops say is like Jibberish, if this is bad, if that is bad, but it is accurate. You need new Brake hardware, and shoes and pads. Calipers can be reused if they can be bled. Brake hoses and lines are Iffy, your vehicle is 10 years old, depends on Rust condition. E brake cables, may be good or bad, depends if they work.

I would not worry about the bearing until all the brake parts are accounted for.

u have to unbolt the caliper[ 2 bolts ] than remove caliper remove pads slide in new ones compress caliper piston replace and bolt back on

Before you consider replacing the calipers, try applying Anti-Squeal lube to the brake pads. You could just have dry brake noise.

It sounds like the rear calipers are bad. Raise the rear wheels and see if you can turn the tires. If you can't, open the bleeder. If you still can't replace the caliper. If you can turn the wheel after you open the bleeder, replace the brake hose to that wheel.

Some brake pads have a small pin sticking up for the e brake that pad must be on the outside when not installed for the e brake or the caliper will not push it out straight. Remove the pads and check for wear on the caliper face and make sure you have them installed correctly I put a pad in backwards once it worked but made a noise
