SOURCE: how do i replace the crank position sensor on a

If you have the type of crank angle sensor shown in the image, then it will be located on the bell-housing towards the top of the bell-housing and usually on the drivers side. Dis-connect the faulty crank angle sensor and then un-bolt the two bolts that secure the crank angle sensor to the bell-housing and then remove the sensor. The best access to the crank angle sensor is from under the vehicle.

I don't think the fuel pump. Sounds like the crank position sensor. That, or the camshaft position sensor. The computer uses the cam position sensor to know when to pulse the injectors. The crank position sensor provides the information for spark timing. If the sensor fails, the computer won't signal the ignition module to create spark from the coils. Crank sensor failure is pretty common on earlier jeeps.

My Grand cherokee 4.7 1999 does not run the engine

Likely the sensor involved is the crank position sensor, next in line would be the cam sensor. You could also have a bad fuel pump or pump relay. Crank sensor is on the bellhousing at about 11 o'clock looking from the rear. It is even with the position of the flywheel. cam sensor is inside or is your distributor, depending upon your system. All are expensive so I recommend that you run some tests outlined in haynes, chiltons or other decent repair manuals before changing anything.
