The timing belt has broken. Fortunately though, according to my catalog, this is not an interference engine and the engine should not be damaged internally.

SOURCE: Crankshaft position sensor

solution #2 was right. The comment was not. It is inside the distributor. Some engines as stated in solution #1 are one the engine block but not this engine, it is in the distributor.

I'm trying to find out where the crank sensor on a 95 mazda miata is.

Depending on the engine, it will either be at the back (nearest to the firewall) of the intake camshaft (B6ZE) or the exhaust camshaft (BP engines)

You should see some wiring going to it as well as the coil packs and a couple of sensors for coolant temperature below it
